I will check that out with my father later. (Right now it's 2:00 a.m. and I think my father would most assuredly do me grievous bodily harm if I called him. Since I don't really want to risk that, I will call him at a later time today and check on my facts.) > > If anyone is interested, I can get names of others in history and celebrities who are Masons. I know for a fact that Red Skelton was a Mason, as is Ernest Borgnine (in fact Mr. Borgnine is a 33rd degree Mason, which is a very high honor). Also, Harry Truman was a Master Mason. > > Barb > Yes, he was a Freemason, and 33 Generals serving under him during the war were as well. Nine signers of the Declaration, thirteen signers of the Constitution and ten signers of the Articles were too. And being a Freemanson, or a Deist would certainly not exclude belief in a " higher power, " rather, it would confirm it. I want to be clear that I was never saying he was an atheist - just a deist, and not necessarily a Christian. I was kind of holding on to this tidbit as a trump card. Washington's participation in Freemasonry pretty much confirms his Deism. He was even buried with masonic rights, by Freeemasons! As Far as Jefferson, while it is widely believed, it cannot be proved through lodge records. Not sure about Adams, will look in to it. But other FFs were Freemasons, including my ancestor - Benjamin Franklin. It's fascinating stuff though, isn't it? I LOVE history.
