Guest guest
Hello boyz and goylz, Our herb of the week this week (July 5 -11) will be Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis). This is one of THE best known remedies for rashes caused by poison ivy. It is also a dye plant - used for making yellow/orange color. Over the course of the week I will post some profiles of the plant, as well as recipes for its use. I'll also do my best to get a picture or two into our files section with the info about it. If anyone has any info about it or pictures of it, please feel free to submit them for the educational benefit of all here! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com
Guest guest
Jewelweed, likes to grow in area where in spring the snow has gathered a bit and keeps the soil moist for awhile. I make my Jewelweed tinctute by stuffing fat stems that are full of juice into a quart jar, pour apple cider vinegar over it and let it steep for a few weeks. Drain the vinegar, press out the last drop of goodness from the stems ( Iuse an old potato ricer for that, with a coffeefilter in it) and bottle. Make sure you have some plastic over the lid or something, for vinegar will eat metal. It's in the stem that the medicine is , we need for Poison Ivy and other rashes.
