Guest guest
Hello, I'm new to your group. My name is Karen, I'm a nurse working as a case manager in a rural hospital. My hospital has always offered the flu vaccine to employees, but now I'm hearing talk of making the H1N1 vaccine mandatory for health care workers. I'm wondering if this is legal, and what the consequences would be if I decline to be vaccinated. Thanks, Karen
Guest guest
I don't think anyone can answer your question. Most say the best way to avoid it is with religious objections, but no one is reporting what has happened when they have tried this, and I'm sure it depends on where you work, the laws in your state & if you have a good lawyer. If medical people join together, they will have a hard time firing half their nurses and doctors, so educating the others might help. Guest guest
Hi Karen, Thanks for your posting. This is certainly a problem for nurses and other health care providers when your civil rights are taken away. I applaud your strength. Thank you. Guest guest
I am fairly new to posting here, as well. New York State health care workers are protesting because they were given the option to take the H1N1 vaccine or to be fired. Among there claims is that it is untested and the threat this virus poses is undetermined. You know that a bill was passed, especially for the H1N1 vaccine, so people cannot sue the manufacturers in case the vaccine turns out to be dangerous. I listen/view various media, mostly NPR, BBC, MSNBC, and CNN. I am not sure where I heard this, but it was said that manufacturing companies were cutting BACK on production. Doctors are encouraged NOT to test patients to ascertain whether they have seasonal virus or H1N1. This means that we are setting the stage so that there is no reliable data in tracking this flu and many doctors will be forced into a position to recommend that their patients get both. My take is that the government somehow thought this would be a killer of a virus and it turned out to be a dud. The government coerced companies to manufacture a huge amount of vaccine and even changed the law when the companies complained that they would not put it on the market without adequate testing, being fearful of lawsuits. Now it is found that the entire flu scare is a bogus and the government is trying to reward these cooperative vaccine manufacturers by helping them to sell the vaccine that they have on hand. Manufacturers who are stuck with the unwanted shots in inventory, so there is a lot of drum beating and public relations articles/announcements claiming that children are protected if the 'herd' gets the shot (we ALL love to 'do it for the children', right?) I think there are also claims that people are asking doctors for the shot and there is a scarcity of the vaccine so if your doctor has access to it you will consider getting it right away before some other idiot beats you to it. Some people are dumb. Telling them that they can have 'special' access to a relatively rare thing that others crave might push them to buy it. I am not against all vaccinations. I think the polio shot did more good than harm - at least the later, dead, ones did. I just think the entire H1N1 scenario is rife with innuendo and rumor and half-truths and if it were a threat we would be getting actual facts from our media sources - I mean verifiable facts from unbiased sources that can be independently checked. All the blather that we hear moguls propagate is interesting, but where is the virus now, how is it being spread, how quickly is it being spread, how many are actually dying from it and what are the demographics including pre-existing conditions from that population? To my mind, if you can't answer those questions first you are probably spreading propaganda of the lowest sort. , " kleelibby50 " <kleelibby wrote: > > Hello, I'm new to your group.
