Guest guest
Hi there, I have an 8 1/2 year old daughter that is highly sensitive and I would like to know if there is any natural supplements that I could give her to help with this. She was tested a couple of years ago and diagnosed with ADHD. I did medicate her with Ritalin for the first part of the school year last year but it was horrible. I switched her to a private school that teaches children with learning differences at the beginning of the second semester and she has not been on any medication since. Since switching her to a new school I have also been researching natural ways to help her and I have slowly been switching over what we eat to mainly organic and fresh foods from our local farmers market. While she is doing well on this program, she does still tend to get wound up real easily and can't calm herself down. The occupational therapist tells me that she's got a sensory processing disorder in which she has a hard time filtering out all the different sounds. She gets bombarded with all the noises until she finally ends up being overloaded by it all and that's when she ends up having one of her melt downs. If you need any other information, please let me know. Otherwise, I am looking for something that would help her stay on an even keel thoughout the day. Thank you, Shelly
Guest guest
I've talked with quite a few people and have done some research in this - try omega 3 supplements and 5-HTP. It's work with some family members. Read Newstarget.com about ADHA - lots of good information and he's not selling anything. Guest guest
calming herbs may help some, or earplugs when she needs to concentrate (that helps me lots!) There are also programs that can be done to help teach her to filter noise better (brain training, not drugs)... see if the school has any information on this, or if they have an audiologist you can talk to, since many of them are aware of sensory processing issues. --Rakira
Guest guest
Thank you for your reply. Does anyone have any suggestions on what type of calming herbs would help? When she starts school in the fall the occupational therapist is going to start working with her with a special type of headphone that will help to filter out the surrounding noises.
