Its just not that easy here, There is no local Farmers Market, closest one is about 45 miles and happens on a work day. Closest REAL organic food store as about the same distance in another direction. I can get a few things from Sprouts or Henry's formerly Boney's or I can grow it myself, and with all the deterrents (caterpillars, grasshoppers, gophers) that may prove to be entirely too expensive. I have to buy my dirt in the first place which already puts the price half way to the moon. Nothing here but gravel and a bit of DG I am worm composting, but thats a very slow process and only produces small amounts of dirt, until those little buggers get busy and start multiplying which they should be just about ready to do considering how large they are now. In the Fall I will be ordering a couple pounds from a lady in Arizona - its just too hot to ship them now. So far this season Ive collected enough stuff for about 2 meals plus all the hot peppers which can be saved for later use. Hopefully this winter will be more productive and perhaps next year will be better,

I think its wonderful that your stand is doing that well. Sure wish we had something like that here.

I think if you just keep talking to ppl and along with everyone else who keeps talking about experiences and bad things they hear it will make a huge difference. You wouldn’t believe the turn around I have experienced at my Farmers Market. Instead of ppl turning up their noses at my reasonable prices or flat out not even looking at my stand, they are swarming to it. A lot say they have been influenced by family and friends to ‘go try real meat’ at Legacy Manor. Of course there will always be those you can’t sway at all and I don’t even try anymore.

You have seen the huge organic movement turn from something wonderful to something that Big Ag is slowly demolishing but they don’t care as long as they make a few temporary bucks and under price us little guys. Look for a new buzzword – certified naturally grown. Small farmers are trying that out and it is a self policing program, so if I know that the farm that has no problem telling their customers that they are hormone free and I know for a fact they aren’t I have the power to yank their certification. What a wonderful feeling as right now, a catalog called Amazing Grazing was just released and I personally know 4 of those farms that aren’t totally grass fed.

I don’t think your comments are falling on deaf ears, it just takes ppl as many years to change how they think as it took to get there in the first place. Keep working on it. It is just like everyone turns to medico’s instead of natural remedies.

Thanks,

Kathy

PS I just emailed the group asking you where you are located, I can ask around thru my and see if there is anyone small that doesn’t advertise, but may be online occasionally.

Well you've sure got my support, and Ive got a big mouth where i work. Until recently I was afraid my comments were falling on deaf ears, but have learned recently that several of our people have stopped drinking diet sodas or using aspertame because of stuff I said. They are balking at the Splenda tho. so Im talkin up Stevia whenever the opportunity arises. So I will keep on a talkin and hopefully at least some of them will benefit. At least I have raised the shadow of doubt in most of them.

Its too bad your farm isn't Local to me.

Zoe,

EXCELLENT!! Just keep on searching out local farms for whatever you need. Big Ag is trying to shut us down and we need support of local consumers to keep us alive.

As I suspected, there are no local farmers for meat(lots of veges- but no meat) I did however find an online store that carries Buffalo meat- have written for assurance that they would not be using the spray. Have alreaady received a response. This in just MINUTES!!! Im impressed. and going to order some ground buffalo right away. I prefer that meat anyways and its just not available locally at any price. If anyone is interested.
