Hello Herbal Remedies Members.

I'm doing some research on food and body care product ingredients and I

thought you might want to

have some data on these INNOCENT SOUNDING INGREDIENTS.

A friend and I are currently looking into "grapefruit seed extract"

to determine if there really is a "good guy" = natural form of

grapefruit seed extract that contains no chemicals. Stay tuned for

this one. I have a company saying they use a natural form of grapeseed

extract that contains NO CHEMICALS and I have another company writing

an article "The Truth About Grapefruit Seed Extract."

Citric acid - I find non-GMO but so far no Certified

Organic Citric Acid. Corn is a major source of Citric Acid and 80% of

the corn these days is GMO. If and when I find more on this one, I'll

let you know.

Now this one doesn't sound as innocent as "grapefruit seed extract" or

"citric acid". It is "maltodextrin". Again, guess

what? Corn is the major source that is used for Maltodextrin. There

is such a thing as "organic maltodextrin". I am an avid label reader

and I just came across "organic maltodextrin" for the first time. See

below data and website.

Did

you know that most maltodextrin is manufactured from corn? Most

processed corn products manufactured in the United States contain

genetically modified corn (GMO's). Now we have an alternative,

certified organic maltodextrin manufactured in Austria. Because there

is no labeling requirement in the US for products containing GMO's, the

only guarantee you have that a product is GMO free is if it is

certified organic. Current National organic standards prohibit the use

of ingredients that contain GMO's.

Certified organic and GMO Free (genetically modified organism)

maltodextrin is used in beer brewing as well as the food industry.

Maltodextrins are easily digestible carbohydrates made from natural

corn starch. The starch is cooked, and then acid and/or enzymes are

used to break the starch into smaller polymers (a process similar to

that used by the body to digest carbohydrate). Maltodextrin does not

contain a significant amount of protein, fat, or fiber. In brewing it

is used to add body, or creaminess to beer without adding flavor,

color, sweetness, or added alcohol (maltodextrin is approximately 12%

fermentable). In a typical 5 gallon batch use from 4 to 16 ounces added

to the boil.

Here's another website regarding maltodextrin.

http://www.marroquin-organics.com/organic_maltodextrins.htm

Properties: excellent solubility in water, neutral taste and easily

digested.

Applications:

baby food (easily digestible)

spice preparations (neutral tasting carrier)

dry soup mix (flow agent)

baking products (improvement in texture)

milk beverages (improvement in viscosity and mouth-feel)

fruit and vegetable powders (neutral carrier)

soya drinks (increase of dry substance and improvement of mouth-feel)

I've already concluded that I either do not want to see any of these on

the label and if I do see them I want to also see Organic.

Very clever way to include GMO's in our food. Would you agree?

READ YOUR LABELS AND KNOW YOUR INGREDIENTS.

Yours in Knowledge, Health and Freedom,

Valorie
