Guest guest
Right you are Mel. The best rubber bands are the kind the post office uses = nice and thick but not too big. Put it around your fingers and thumb, and then stretch your fingers and thumb out as far as you can. Another good exercise is to grip both hands intertwined together and then stretch them out as if you're pushing your palms away from your body. It this hurts too much, just cut back on the gradient and don't push out so hard. The idea is to start small and then increase the gradient comfortably. Doing simple push ups can also help as it stretches the area. Do the push ups from your knees or hips if you're out of shape. The place to start is with the rubber bands though. You can even increase this gradient by going up to two rubber bands or even three at a time. ML, Doc Melany wrote: Hi Doc Ian!  For the Carpal tunnel symptoms I was getting, the keyboard change as you mention, with stretching exercises were pivotal in handling it. Nutrition absolutely. Down to 1 1/2 cup of coffee in the morning only.  Also what helped me early on was professional manual therapy which stretched out that elastic band when it felt like it was going to snap. And now when I feel it threatening, the exercises alone do the trick...knock on wood!  Mel  In a message dated 05/12/08 17:37:14 Eastern Daylight Time, DocShillington (AT) Knology (DOT) net writes: As far as the Carpal tunnel is concerned, I have a couple of simple exercises you can do that will handle it within a couple of days = a piece of cake to fix. C'mon over to my office when you get a chance, and I'll show them to you. Too simple really. Also, you may wish to change your keyboard layout, and get some kind of support or different support if you already have some. I love the new ergonomic keyboard put out by Logitech. You may also have to put your keyboard up higher = get a small platform to put it on, orrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lower it as the case may be. Play with it, and you'll find the right comfort level. Butttttttt, those exercises are key, so simple, and don't cost a thing.
