young cat about 6 mo. old has Diarrhea

I have found a bout a 6 mo old kitten that has diarrhea. Does anyone have any idea why? I have looked it up on the internet, and they some vets use Probiotic. I have a liquid probiotic and am going to try it and see what happens, What concerns me is if she needs an antibiotic or something like that. I thought it was the food, but the prior people who had her said she had it also when she came to their house.
