Guest guest
IVF success rates are truly meaningless statistics without more information. Clearly a success rate of 25% with a patient over 40 with serious infertility issues such as PCOS, irregular cycles and fibroids, is remarkably good, while for a 25 year old patient with a totally clean bill of health and regular cycles 25% is very poor indeed. To lump them all together gives no useful information. Also it is important to not just track successful pregnancies, but babies delivered healthy and happy. An IVF can result in a successful pregnancy only to lead to a miscarriage down the line. My success rates with infertility are in the 50% range overall and it is the 3rd most common thing I treat (after pain and well being). Considering I often am seeing some of the most challenging infertility patients (over 40, PCOS, high FSH etc.) I think I'm doing rather well. My business is good and I feel no threat from the ABORM forming. Perhaps I'll look into the test at some point, but once you have a reputation and can get referrals from reproductive endocrinologists, having a piece of paper saying you know what you are doing from other acupuncturists is pretty meaningless. Do your research (know the Western procedures, drugs, biology, physiology etc.), know what you are doing, know what a patient is talking about when they come in with their lab results, get results using our medicine and you will stay busy. I prefer to let other people more passionate about these things fight the political battles. I prefer to treat patients. Guest guest
Christopher, All of these statistics are tracked meticulously and reported to the CDC. Outcomes of IVF are reported by age group. Conception rates and live birth rates are alsotracked and reported, as are the incidences of singletons, twins, triplets, etc. I think Alon was generalizing, but the RE community and the CDC have specific data across all of these criteria.
