Malpractice and obstetrics - AAC

This is the policy I have. My broker is Hall

Conway Jackson in Mill Creek, Washington. You'll

pay an additional endorsement and higher

deductible for moxibustion. I actually pay about

$1400. For a non-guaranteed insurer, Lloyd's of

London is a company with a sound history and

solid reputation. It is the exception for

healthcare liability insurers to cover scope of

practice, too.

I wouldn't even consider insuring with AAC,

ob/gyn or not. I talked to them years ago and

they were very strange about end of life care.

They were explicit that if a terminal patient

stopped treatment, even with medical endorsement,

they expected me to terminate them. I said " Why,

I can't treat cancer, for example. That's not in

my scope of practice. I'm just treating that

person. " " It doesn't matter. If you're one of

the last treating providers the family could come

sue you. " That's exactly what the rep said. At

that point I considered giving away my needles

and running for the hills. They clearly did not

understand the concept of palliative care or that

" stopping tx " does not equal no medical

intervention. THAT, in fact, leads us TO the

concept of palliative and hospice care.

I had made the mistake of calling them to ask

about a peculiar question on their application:

" Do you treat cancer [and/or, something like

that] epilepsy? " I said, how were those

conditions connected and I didn't know any

providers who excluded either of those conditions

from their practice. I was trying to elicit a

response to my unspoken question of, what was

their point? I can only pray they have smarter

folks working there now.

asked the broker about ob/gyn, and from looking

at the policy, there is no exclusions. this is

what I am planning on switching too from AAC.
