Guest guest
It's a good question. Todd might have a better answer. CHA is very tight in membership rules. I'm wondering if the other group that showed up on Google is more open in terms of joining? There are no controls that I know of that keep us off Google. And I'm assuming that everyone would want to keep it that way. Doug , " J. Guest guest
I have a question for group moderators and any techies who know the answer - Thank you in advance! I belong to 4 right now. Recently I googled my name for a reason unrelated to the groups. All my posts for another group appeared on my google search - ouch! But not one of my several Chinese Med groups' posts came up. Is there a group setting that will prevent posts from coming up on a google search? Obviously there is Some Operational/Settings difference b/w the Other group and the CHM groups, or posts for all my would appear in my google searches. Thanks again! Guest guest
Hi Lynn, This group has restricted access, so only members can read messages. That means Google cannot index messages within this forum so no one else can read them. The other groups you mention are open access, which means anyone can read them, even if you aren't a member. This setting was selected by the person that owns the group. If you want to stop Google indexing your messages you will have to get the group owner to change the settings of the group and restrict access. Hope that helps. Attilio Chinese Medicine , " J. Guest guest
Wow, Lynn, you will have to get in touch with those group owners, pronto. I can't imagine everything I ever said about anybody on these groups appearing on a google search! Guest guest
hi, i'm not the CHA moderator, but I've started at least 10 lists over the years. the person setting up the parameters of the group has the option of making the archive posts available to anyone (general public) or to group members. it is my guess that the group that shows up on a google search has been set up for anyone to view the posts. if you have concerns, my advice to you would be to email the moderator of that group and request they change the settings. they may not even be aware this is happening. best, jean
Guest guest
It seems Todd is the only one to change the settings at CHA (in less I am missing something). And I/we am/are perfectly happy with CHA being off the Google machine so rest assured there won't be a change. Guest guest
Attilio, I wondered about that. Thanks very much for the info, that does help a lot. Guest guest
Anon, I had incredible political aspirations and I've never even hired in-home help. But now, I have to kiss it all good-bye just for belonging to a meniere's-related list. Serves me right for being dizzy. Guest guest
Thanks Jean! Wow, this subject is sure a small but important education for me. I started out on these professional-closed groups and I realize I was rather naive when I jumped into another group. Guest guest
Hi There has been a longstanding agreement between the members of this group that the list will remain private. Jean is right that the moderator of any group can change this feature, but everyone can rest assured that will never happen here. The candid nature of this discussion would be compromised if that were the case. I realize that Jean was not suggesting this, but just to settle any concerns that might have been raised by this thread. -------------- Original message ---------------------- " Jean " <greypal > i was not suggesting todd change the settings of THIS group, > that she contact the moderator of the group she is on to > change privace settings there (her original concern) > > jean > > > > It seems Todd is the only one to change the settings at CHA (in > less I am missing > > something). Guest guest
And I for another Like it Just That Way, Thank you, Todd. I know that my awareness of settings on other has been cranked up a several notches since this topic came up for myself. I hope that in this cyberage this info is useful for others, also.
