In a discussion back in Oct 2006, starting off with amenorrhea, I had

mentioned information beyond TCM schooling / textbooks as to a

network of channels in connection with the BaoGong, which we all know

as, roughly, the uterus.

" simchagottlieb " <simchagottlieb and " Rossana " had asked

for more information or the reference. Well, just today I finally

found the article reprint with that information:

Journal of the American College of Traditional , 3, 1987

" A Preliminary Discussion of the Bao Gong, Bao [misspelled as Mao]

Mai, & Bao Luo "

by Wang Yao-Ting, translated by Zhang Ting-Liang & Bob Flaws, with

discussion by Bob Flaws.

The gist of it:

Bao Gong is interpreted (citing various classical sources) as an

organ, in both female and male, roughly between the bladder and end

of the large intestine. Various other names also mentioned, e.g.

DanTian, QiHai, etc.

It is said to be where essence is " concealed " , and expresses a

connection between the Heart and the Kidneys. From the Heart it

received Heart Blood; from the Kidneys, essence. It has

characteristics of both zang (creation/reception and storage) and fu

(discharge). (And, of course, we know it as a one of the 7 " qi fu " /

extraordinary organs.)

Bao Mai is said to represent that connection with the Heart, in some

ways like the Ren and Chong pathways from the pelvic cavity to the heart area.

The Bao Luo represents the connection to the Kidneys.

So the pathway, so to speak, runs: Heart BaoMai BaoGong BaoLuo Kidneys.

The article includes differentiation and case studies using these

concepts, and a piece by Bob Flaw relating it to his clinical experience.

I recall using these ideas, back then (early 1990's), in one case of

a women with hormonal irregularities (premature menopause) and a

history of childhood sexual abuse.

Though at the time I was not aware of it, this maps nicely into

Stephen and Ondrea Levine's discussion and " treatment " (guided

meditations) for sexual abuse, namely: " Healing the Heart of the

Womb " . Where they note that uterine muscle is morphologically

closely related to heart muscle.

That discussion and meditation is found in the book (still in print)

" Healing into Life and Death " . They had a set of audio tapes with a

series of discussions and meditations --- a kind of phased treatment

protocol. Highly skillful stuff, IMO. A holistic approach to making

peace with the life-long aftermath of (often childhood) sexual abuse.

Chris,

Interestingly,

Deadman et al, in A Manual of Acupuncture pg 217

Discussion on Heart 5 TongLi:

Luo connecting point of the Heart channel:

" The Heart governs blood, whilst according to the Essential Questions (Su

Wen),

" The bao mai {Uterine Channel} pertains to the Heart and is connected with

the uterus " .

If, due to emotional factors, heat accumulates in the Heart and enters the

blood,

there may be uterine bleeding or menorrhagia due to reckless movement of the

blood.

Tongli HE-5 is the only point on the Heart channel with such gynaecological

indications. "

Also, KID 5 (xi), 6 (opening yin-qiao), 8 (xi-cleft yin-qiao), 13, 14

(local)

are especially indicated for uterine issues.

" The vessel of the uterus connects with the Kidneys " (Su Wen)

pg. 345, 349 (Deadman)

Which herbal formulas and single herbs contact the bao mai directly?

Thanks.

The Four Reliances:

Do not rely upon the individual, but rely upon the teaching.

As far as teachings go, do not rely upon the words alone, but rely upon the

meaning that underlies them.

Regarding the meaning, do not rely upon the provisional meaning alone, but

rely upon the definitive meaning.

And regarding the definitive meaning, do not rely upon ordinary

consciousness, but rely upon wisdom awareness.
