I recieved this query from a friend of a patient. wonderng if anyone can

provide some insight into this.

I go to the dermatologist a lot for skin tags and skin moles and he freezes

them off. It is painful, costly, and when I get one burned off then 5 more

comes and replaces it. They itch me more and more and I can not keep from

scratching and picking. He says there is nothing I can do but the freezing

off and I don't believe that. I think they are a virus and I think there

should be something.

thanks,

k

on the skin tag location (from the interested, prospective patient):

Tags are mostly around neck and some around the underarm area.

The " moles " are face to knees at this point.

This is just an incidental note on skin tags.

My good friend, pathologist, came in for a massage. I noticed a skin tag on his

upper back. He said take a nail clipper and take it off! I said, you got to be

kidding me. He said, no - that's what the dermatologist would do. I did it -

pinched it right off with a nail clipper - no bleeding, no nothing. He didn't

even register any pain.

I have never done this on any one else, and probably never will, but this guy is

no dummy when it comes to Western skin pathology.

ditto, that's what my dermatologist told me to do, too - just clip

the skin tags off with nail clippers or really sharp little

scissors. he also said they are caused by clothes rubbing the skin,

not by viruses. for moles, the dermatologist should use a local

anesthetic before removing these; it should be relatively painless,

and if the person has health insurance, it will likely pay for the

removal.
