If you take 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon with a teaspoon of honey twice a day for three days (in warm water as a tea or "as is" (which is what I do), it will stave off a cold or heal one up pronto. We have been staving off colds all autumn. At the first hint of a cold (sniffles, stuffy nose, "heavy" sinus feeling, etc) we strat the honey and cinnamon and within a day we have relief. I have taken this just once a day and gotten relief, but for a real heavy cold coming on I've done it twice a day and stopped it dead.

My dh has COPD and traditionally has had bronchitis yearly. We have held it off with echinacea and zinc for the past 2 years. Unfortunately, dear daughter and I got colds this year and we have held Rich off for the past 3 weeks from any symptoms by serving him Basil tea reinforced with Mullein (2 capsules of powder emptied) sweetened with honey or stevia. He started with pretty bad symptoms yesterday however, including a sore throat and extreme heaviness in his upper chest. I hit him with Basil tea, fortified with 1 dropper of Plantain extract, 1t Rosehip extract and the Mullein. I mixed 1/4c raw honey mixed with 4 droppers of Cayenne extract which he licked from a spoon frequently through the night. I ordered echinacea every hour yesterday. This am, he announced, "it works!" He feels better, though his sinuses are still stuffy. Now I need to go order more herbs. Onion poultices work wonders on lung ailments~that is the treatment of choice we use for pleurisy or bronchitis as it gets rid of it within a day or two.

You can google how to make one.

Lobelia is very good for lung ailments, too.

I used to get Strep Throat every year, sometimes 2 or 3xs because I was becoming immune to the Penicillin. Then my mother introduced me to this wonderful little blue book called Folk Medicine by D.C. Jarvis, M.D. In there is a simple recipe for sore throats, One teaspoonful of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water. Gargle one mouthful every hour, and swallow after gargling. This is followed by a second mouthful, used in the same manner. Do this every hour. As the soreness goes away intervals between garling may be changed to every 2 hrs. I myself make the mixture mostly apple cider vinegar and gargle as much of the glass as I can stand. Reason being I am so busy and constantly on the go. Single moms don't have time to be sick you know. LOL

It has been 14/15 yrs now and in all that time I have not even had a sore throat. The min. it starts to get that scratchy feeling a gargling I go!

I mentioned this book and Dr. Jarvis because in the last newsletter I received from this list he was mentioned in that. I was floored. We even have my father's primary care doctor using this. He was a tuffy getting him to do that (he is also a neighbor). We'll eventually get him to turn around.

In this book they also mention about honey comb for stuffy noses, allergies. We know this works also because we have used it on my nephew.

Funny thing, I am

a First Responder at work and in my locker I have a jar of organic honey, Heinz Apple Cider Vinegar and Docs recipe for Total Tonic! If we leave work early (unscheduled) we get black marks/half black marks and I have helped many people keep their totals down and stay at work. I have lots of copies of this recipe and the recipe for Docs Total Tonic to pass out to everyone so they can take care of their families at home too! And of course I tell EVERYONE about this list!

My offer of suggested help that I just used is raw apple cider vinegar and honey. Take a teaspoon and gargle with it so it sloshes around all the areas of your throat...works wonderfully but it can burn to some degree those sore spots. The benefit is a normal feeling throat though!

We were doing the cinnamon honey suggestion when he started to get

productive coughs which is preventing his usual bout with bronchitis.

I see a few good remedies for sore throats here. I have one too. Doc has mentioned this one as well. Make a hot herbal tea, say Chamomile, ginger, hawthorne, elderflower, etc, and add a few drops, at least 4 drops of Doc's Cayenne tincture to the hot tea and drink a few times a day. I have done this a few times a few weeks ago when I had a sore throat and stuffy nose. I got rid of the sore dry throat in a good day in a half.

Ginger is also a good remedy for colds. I would also drink ginger tea as well as eat some cut pieces of organic ginger.

To stop smoking. It is easy and cheap and it works, everyone I have told this and they have done it . They stopped and never smoked again.

Stop Smoking

1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

8 oz. orange juice

Mix cream of tartar & orange juice

Every night drink at bed time.

Next morning nicotine comes out in your urine.

Next day you will smoke fewer cigarettes

By the end of the month you will be down to no cigarettes.

Some people it only takes 10-15 days others it takes 30. If you are a heavy smoker it will take 30 days.

Let me know how it works for you.

Cayenne is powerful stuff! My problem is I can barely handle it! I am one of those people who likes more bland and less spicy foods.

I am so GLAD he is finding relief! One thing I have learned over the years is that each person's body make-up is different and what works for one person may not work as effectively for another. Ditto fr pharmaceuticals (OTC or prescription). I have been using honey for cold sores for over 15 years and it works like a charm for me. My husband swears it is useless and does not work for him. I don't know if it is because I am more faithful in using it relentlessly (I even keep some by my bed at night and reapply as I wake up) or if his body is just different and it really doesn't work for him. I know that there are a lot of OTC and prescription meds he can't take as they wipe him out for days until they get out of his system. we use very little of either one, but on those rare occasions when we have had to submit ot them, he most liekly a not can't take them as he has such bad reactions to them (antihistamines will put him to sleep for 3-4 days straight so he avoids them like the plague!).
