Guest guest
Thanks! It's great that you have a source of organic tofu. I couldn't agree with you more on the vegan chicken eggs. It's just not natural. I have moved bales of hay in the barn to find mice nests and chickens hitting those grey blurs like hawks. They eat 'em quick and I've never seen happier or healthier poultry. Other then song birds and other small birds most birds eat some meat. It is not natural for them not to eat bugs and voles. It's like these people who feed cats a vegan diet. Where did Common Sense run off to? Maybe it hitched a time machine back to the past. Best ~B On Wed, 2009-02-25 at 22:31 -0800, Ieneke van Houten wrote: Great post Bryan! One of my favorite sources of information on this topic is Sally Fallon, linked to the Weston A. Price foundation. Her cookbook " Nourishing Traditions " distinguishes between traditional foods, including animal protein and fats , and " newfangled foods " , all the fake stuff you just described. It has great information on fermented food. I must put in a few words in defence of GOOD tofu. We get it from an old hippie in Nelson, B.C. who makes it from organically grown, non GMO soy beans. It tastes so different from other tofu. We eat it the way it is eaten in the East: in small quantities, and always mixed with warming spices. A bowl of tofu/miso soup with lots of garlic, ginger, pepper and a sprinkle of seaweed makes me feel nicely nourished. Soy milk on the other hand makes me feel violently ill. There is a lot of ideology around food. Ironically people who are so anxious to be totally " pure " separate themselves more from Nature. The greatest insanity: eggs supposedly from " natural, vegan chickens " . Chickens will eat mice with great glee. A chicken can be natural or vegan, but not both.
