Heard of E-zorb?

I had two people tell me about this new product, E-zorb, which is being hailed

as a good supplement for fibromyalgia, arthritis and osteoporosis. It is

calcium aspartate anhydrous with some magnesium. One of the women said it was

helping her fibromyalgia pain, the other thought it was helping her with

osteoporosis, but who knows? Can anyone tell me about the benefits of mineral

aspartates, and whether calcium aspartate is helpful in these conditions? I

have not found good information on this.

Thanks

Here in Australia it is generally accepted that you get sufficient Calcium

in your diet and you only need Magnesium supplemented - often in quite large

amounts, if you insist on taking the two minerals then you need to separate

them and take one in the morning and the other at night.

Apparently you (or Australia in general) is ahead of US on this.

My own experiences with clients doing hair analysis suggests that only one out of three people here need any supplemental calcium whereas 2 out of 3 need magnesium. While I don't worry much about taking an aspartate form of magnesium or calcium since the excitoxic effect of aspartate is offset by the mineral itself, why go through the expense of taking calcium aspartate when the citrate form is just as well absorbed?

In general, when taking mineral supplements, combinations of a variety of chelate forms are best absorbed while oxides and carbonates are the worst.

As a rule, I prefer to give fibro patients twice the magnesium as calcium, Some of the magnesiun should be the malate form. Fibro patients should confirm their mineral needs via a hair analysis. There is more to life than just calcium and magnesium!--- On Mon, 3/23/09, kotheimerdc <kotheimerdc wrote:

Very interesting array of replies. I believe the dangerous chemical to avoid is

aspartame, which is a combination of the two amino acids apartic acid and

phenylalanine, combined as a sweetener, and which combination is indeed

dangerous. But if a mineral is chelated with the single amino acid, aspartic

acid, it does not fall into the dangerous category. It is the combination of

the two amino acids that is dangerous, no?

I have found that the mineral aspartates are used for easy absorption, and for

absorption into the cells, and I believe they are preferred in cardiovascular

conditions, such as when a chelating effect is desired for the blood vessel

walls. E-zorb suddenly appeared by way of these two women I mentioned, and I

tried to get more information. Metagenics, DaVinci and a few other reputable

companies sell mineral aspartates. I realize that the citrate and lactate and

other chelated forms of calcium are well absorbed. But I was wondering if there

was something special about the aspartate for the bones, joints and connective

tissue.

I too do not find that many people who are low in calcium, but when they are I

want to get the right supplement if they can't get it from the diet. Of course

digestion, vitamin D status, EFA's and parathyroid status are factors too.

With hair analysis, isn't it more the ratio of minerals that is revealing than

the amounts?

You are correct about hair analysis. The ratio of calcium to other minerals is more important than the amount.. Even if the calcium amount is high, it does not tell you that you are consuming too much but that you are absorbing too little and that the excretion of calcium into the hair and other soft tissue can be a problem in increasing the formation of stones and arthritic deposits. In the case where calcium is too high and other minerals are generally low, this indicates insufficient production of stomach acid (malabsorption).

Also, minerals that enter a particular cell go to the place in the cell determined by the particular amino acid, sugar or fatty acid that it is attached to. Hence, the need for a taking more than one form of a mineral as a supplement and/or the need for a 'balanced' diet in terms of mineral-containing proteins and vegetables and essential fatty acids..--- On Tue, 3/24/09, kotheimerdc <kotheimerdc wrote:
