So how can they get away with saying the drugs reduce the risk of heart attacks by 50 percent? They're using relative numbers instead of absolute numbers to describe these events.Only 1.8 out of 100 people had heart attacks in the placebo group. This was reduced to 0.9 people in the statin group. So while only about 1 in 100 people would benefit from the drug (even if you believe the study, which I don't), 99 out of 100 people would have no benefit but still suffer possible side effects from the drug!The closer you look at Big Pharma's Jupiter study, the more you realize they must be from Mars to think drugging everybody with expensive, dangerous statins is somehow worth it.
