Guest guest
I have a small male pom, who has been here for 3 years. He came with umpteen health issues which I have been addressing for the past 3 years. He is between 8-12 years of age. When he came here, he had a sparse covering of hair. His skin was covered with yellow sticky scaley stuff. I worked on that and in time got that cleared up. He is on a healthy raw diet. I have never encountered mange before and had no idea what it was. I saw him getting dry red skin along the spine from his neck to his tail. then he lost hair on the tail from where it is joined onto his body about 2 inches. It was red and sore looking. I put lotion on it and that helped. Then he started jumping to his feet and yelping. That would happen very often during the day and more so at night. Hmmmm what in the world could it be? Then I started feeling as though little pin pricks were happening to me. So I have started with spraying my rugs every night before going to bed. I mixed up some brewers yeast in boiling water, added some 35% hydrogen food grade peroxide let it cool, used a soft brush and put that on the dog. I soaked his skin then used a blow dryer to dry things because he gets chilled in a hurry. Yesterday I bought some olive oil and put that on his sore areas. I read up on natural methods of getting rid of mange and am hoping this will help. Does any one else have first hand knowledge on dealing with mange? I have a spray that has lavender geranium etc in it so am also hoping that will help to rid the rugs of the mites. I have used raid but am hoping this stuff will be a better solution. I called a vets office that stated they were holistic but when I enquired what to do for mange it was revolution and ivermectin. Hmm does not sound too much like holistic to me.
