Guest guest
Colleagues: If anyone is interested in taking an indepth, one-year herb course, and you can be in Columbia MD on Monday nights, this is a great course. I have been to a lot of herb workshops and have never seen anyone explain it as clearly as Steve Kaufman. I am attaching his information below. You can contact him directly at: drtcm or at his phone number below: Course Information: Announcing a herbal course. This will be the fourth time that I have taught this course. For those of you who know me, I intend for this course to be comprehensive and to teach it in a manner that will integrate herbs and formulas, so that within a short period of time you will be able to start formulating for your patients. This is a serious undertaking; if you have any doubts about your desire to study and learn Chinese herbs I suggest you not entertain this course. On the other hand if you do have a desire to learn, then this will suit your needs and your budget. It is by popular demand that this class will again be repeated. The dynamics of the course have not changed and the following is a synopsis of what the course will be like. The class will cover approximately 300 herbs and 120 formulas. 114 hours total: approximately 77 hours herbs and 37 hours formulas. Herbs and formulas will be taught with both Pinyin and pharmacological names. You will learn how to select herbs and formulas based on their properties and their classifications. How to appropriately dose, how to measure, how to modify your formulas and how to train your patients is also included. Herbs will be taught via the methods of pattern discrimination, pharmacological actions and symptomatic actions. Lectures would be 3 hours each week for 38 weeks (there will be time off between sections to reduce burnout and allow for vacations). Classes will be Mondays from 6:30pm – 9:30pm and held in Columbia, Md. There will be a minimum amount of homework, mostly the amount of time and effort you put into your studying will be commensurate with how much you will get from this course. Everyone receives credit for attendance and everyone passes. Within this framework, you will be encouraged to bring in cases for discussion in class, and some case study may be required. We will not have a ‘clinic’, however, as we progress you may bring patients to class as a case study. We also will not have a ‘raw’ herbal pharmacy. I will teach this class thru the use of concentrates (powders, granules). Note: though you will learn how to use granules, it is directly translatable into raw herbs. The required books will be Materia Medica - Bensky/Clavey/Stoger and Formulas and Strategies - Bensky/Barolet. I will introduce you to other materia medica that you may wish to get to enlarge your libraries. There is a 17 person maximum. Dates: Start time is scheduled for Monday, September 8. The fee is $1700.00 and will be due by start of class. An early non-refundable payment of $250.00 is required to hold you place in class. You may not be allowed to sit for the NCCAOM herbal exam after completing this class. The NCCAOM will only accept students who have completed a course from an accredited school. You will receive PDA’s (previously known as CEU’s) credits for Maryland and NCCAOM. Location will be in Columbia, Md. I will e-mail driving directions to all enrollees. If you are interested in this class or have questions or concerns, reply via e-mail or telephone 443-334-1998.
