Guest guest
I have been rehabbing a torn gastrocnemius muscle, my own!, using a variety of therapuetic inputs: Electrostim acupuncture, ultrasound (administered by a chiro friend) and microcurrent stimulation applied through a rather expensive device called an AlphaStim100, as well as Chinese Herbals both internal and external, and Wobenzyme. It is 3 weeks now, after a what was initially a scary and painful incident( i felt and heard the muscle pop as it tore while I was running) it is healing very well. Can anyone of you ( hint hint Alon Marcus) explain how the 3 modalities differ in their therapeutic effect effect on muscle tissue ? Turiya Hill, L.Ac. Guest guest
Have there been any systematic studies that evaluate micro current versus standard electric for acupuncture use? It seems there are a lot of different " beliefs " in the community, but do we know any of it for sure? Guest guest
Turiya its hard w/out knowing more detail but: electroacup if local can move myofibrils pass each other and prevent scarring; the muscle should be positioned in a shortened position, microcurrent is said to increase ATP which is the energy within the cells as well as balance electrical activity but the evidence is not strong, ultrasound vibrates the tissue with resulting mechanical stimulation and depending on setting can also result in thermal effects. You can find a lot more on these in my book
