Guest guest
I was recently contacted about whether acupuncture can help with decreased functioning of salivary glands leading to dry mouth? My first thought is SE of medication but have not had a chance to do a full intake? Has anyone had any experience with this? If so, any success? Thank you! Lisa Hi Lisa Yes, yes and yes for acupuncture and xerostomia... without question. If you do a quick PubMed search, you'll also find plenty - mainly for xerostomia caused by head and neck irradiation. Some key acupoints which in combination have worked in folk I've seen: Co2, Ren24, St4 & 6; plus ear points 'parotid' and 'sympathetic'. Plus points for TCM diagnsosis. Your patient will most likely report almost immediate saliva increase once Co2 in particular goes in.
