Guest guest
Dr. Sung, Thank you for bringing the issue of regional differences of herbs to the forum. This is very important and something I'd like to learn more about. Are there any good resources for this information? If not, someone could write it and it would be immensely useful for all of us. The ones that I was taught are in the Bensky 3rd ed. There's good info at the end of each monograph. ie... Bei sha shen vs Nan sha shen, Bei chai hu vs Nan chai hu.... Huai niu xi vs Chuan niu xi (different species) But, I didn't know about the different varieties of Dang gui.. (Angelica sinensis) by region. I'm sure that the Bai Ju hua that grows in Hang zhou is different than other regions... probably smaller and sweeter, looking from the samples that I have. (more harmonizing?, less clearing?) Is that why it's the choice herb to use with Pu er, which is a diuretic and draining? A teacher of mine said that everything that comes from Sichuan is spicy, including the people. They can all take 10 qian of Fu zi without any problem and eat Chuan jiao with every meal. K. On Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 7:32 AM, sxm2649 <sxm2649 wrote: > Jason, thanks for your information. As far as teachings go, do not rely upon the words alone, but rely upon the meaning that underlies them. Regarding the meaning, do not rely upon the provisional meaning alone, but rely upon the definitive meaning. And regarding the definitive meaning, do not rely upon ordinary consciousness, but rely upon wisdom awareness.
