Guest guest
Dear Colleagues, Recently I read that Human growth Hormone (HGH) is naturally stimulated during non-REM deep delta wave sleep and during intense anerobic exercise. It got me wondering if anyone has considered whether acupuncture applied to any specific points (like let's say Ren 4, Ren 6, St 36, or Sp 6), or if any herbs or formulas have been studied as to consider whether they stimulate HgH? Has anyone heard of any studies in this area?
Guest guest
Hi Yehuda. All yang tonic herbs should stimulate HgH. Some herbs, like Lu Rong / Antler Velvet contain largish amounts of a hormone downstream from HgH, IGF-1. In a sense, they're kind of the same thing. So basically, it's chinese medicine all over again: for growth we need jing put into action through yang. However, it's actually 3am here and high time for me to do what is right. Guest guest
Let's explore this further: I have 3 questions then: 1. I wonder if it follows universally that all substances which replenish Jing also stimulate the production of HGH? 2. Are all substances that generate HGH also androgenergic, ie.they also generate testosterone. 3. What about acupuncture? What affect does acupuncture have on hormones. Have there been any studies? --- On Sun, 7/12/09, Hugo Ramiro <subincor wrote: Hugo Ramiro <subincor Re: acupuncture (and herbs) stimulating HGH? Guest guest
Hi Yehuda and Hugo, I've been looking at this particular issue now for a long time as I've watched others in both CM and subspecialties in WM piece together evidence in their own paradigms. And both paradigms give ample support to both of your commentaries. Endocrinologists always speak about daytime and night time cocktails and the subtle adaptive responses of their patients to injurious stress as well as to high level training in sports. We just spoke about this briefly on another list regarding " environmental qi " and Lung Qi nourishing Kidney Qi. You can see the results of physical activity on athletic development as well as on resolving insulin resistance in metabolic syndrome (diabetes II). I recall Dr. Charles Chiang of Min Tong Pharm. Co. teaching pharmacology of herbs and formulas describing research on Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang in this light ... offering deep restorative sleep to athletes. I hope we can return to this topic in late August when I'll be available to help research this question and also ask Dr. Chiang (and Dr. Ping Qi Kang) some questions to advance my thoughts on the topic. This is a strong underlying theme in my physiology class. Thanks for discussing this. Gratefully, Emmanuel Segmen
Guest guest
Some ideas about the anterior pituitary:1) place where numerous hormones are produced.2) Apparently, vit E fees this organ (ref in " The Chemistry of Man " by B. Jensen)3) TV tubes and fluorescent lights emit radiation that is harmful to the pituitary. Not sure if computers are also in this category but it might make sense. (see above)4) the growth-controlling portion of the pituitary contains 7-10x the bromine of any other organ and this amount declines with age. (see above)5) HGH and androgens (ie, testosterone) share a common source, the pituitary. I cannot help but wonder about using auricular needling of the organ locations for help. Michael W.
