Guest guest
Hi, My new kitten has runny eyes, which from what I've read is usually related to the herpes virus. I have been giving him Lycine--about 250 to 50 mg twice a day. He seems a little better, but still has the runny eyes. I am an herbalist, but hesitant to give herbs without being a vet. I know that animals respond differently to herbs than people sometimes. Anyone have ideas? Even better if you are a vet, but if you have experience treating this let me know. I have an older cat that had the respiratory issues related to herpes when he was a kitten. We gave him antibiotics repeatedly and he continued to be sick so finally I gave him herbs and it cleared up. I gave him Golden Flower's Jade Screen and Xanthium (which is basically a combo of Yu Ping Feng San and Cang Er San. I wonder about giving this kitty the same formula, but since this is in his eyes as opposed to his respiratory system I am hesitant. Thanks for any experiences you can share! Guest guest
It could also be an upper respiratory infection- it's very common. I used to rescue cats/ kittens and had good results with vitamin C. I put powder in their water (make sure they are still drinking it). You can give it to the point of diarrhea, then back off a bit. Cleared the infections up every time. Ariel heylaurag wrote: > > > Hi, My new kitten has runny eyes, which from what I've read is usually > related to the herpes virus. Guest guest
Hi Laura, Acute viral rhinotracheitis / conjunctivitis in cats is a wind-cold superficial pattern. I usually treat with Gui Zhi Tang + acupuncture Lu7, Bl 13, Ig4, GB 20 Ig20, small diam. needles. Yu Ping Feng San could be used after symptoms cease, as herpes virus keeps latent in the organism and can become chronic infection. Lysine is OK too. And vitamin C. Cang Er San would be used in to relieve a Wind-Heat pattern with nasal obstruction, which is a common evolution of rhinotracheitis in cats (bacteria). Hope that helps. Guest guest
Thanks, I think that he's had this for awhile, so should I move to something more for heat? I'd say that the discharge is mostly clear but also a little yellow. Its hard to say because he's a red cat, so its hard to see the color. Certainly over time if we haven't wiped it up recently it bunches up into eye buggers that are yellow. Guest guest
Chinese Medicine , Patricia Jordan That's Long Dan Xie Gan Tang, right? Hvae you seen this work in cats, or are you just talking from theory? In humans it seems like it pulls the virus to the surface causing more herpes outbreaks, so I don't tend to use it. But I've wondered if that might be from not giving a high enough dose. <coastalcatclinic wrote: > > > snake and dragon teapills give 1 teapill per day for about 7 days > > Sincerely, Patricia Jordan DVM,CVA,CTCVM & Herbology > > > > > > Chinese Medicine > heylaurag > Wed, 15 Jul 2009 23:52:15 +0000 > Cat with runny eyes > > > > > > Hi, My new kitten has runny eyes, which from what I've read is usually related to the herpes virus. Guest guest
Herpes is a Vit C defeciency and the best way to get Vit C into the cat is with water soluble natural vitamins and so I would suggest PAWIER which you can get off the web.Directions on the bottle. I will also put cats on Astragalus as a Wei Qi Booster once the eyes are clear. Guest guest
Thanks for this feedback. What dose of Vitamin C do you give? He was born February 14th (and he IS a lover), so he's a little over 5 months old. Guest guest
I use PAWIER water soluble vitamins for the animals. Also, zinc is a component. Just go onto the internet and enter the name and the site will let you know a retailer or you can buy direct from them. Dose is on the bottle. Want to experience a cat psycho event, try administering Vit C another way, buy the Pawier it just goes in the water.
