Guest guest
Hi Jane, Sorry I missed your first post! Welcome aboard! Make yourself at home and comfy Ok, about bases. If you are making a lotion it MUST have a preservative of some sort in it. See, once you mix oil and water together (like lotion) it needs to be preserved, because it is an ideal environment for bacteria and other nasties to grow in. There are a variety of preservatives out there, not just parabens, but those are the most widely used. There hasn't been an effective all natural preservative found to date. The whole grapefruit seed extract thing is controversial, because it was found that GSE is produced with grapefruit seeds that have been preserved (with parabens) and those preservatives are in the extract itself and are what give it the preservative effect. I do make my own lotions for myself, but for sale, at the moment, I use a lab created base to keep my customers safe Creams that don't contain water of any kind only need an anti-oxidant added to them. Yes, bacteria and nasties can be introduced to them, but they aren't the spontaneous icky things breeding ground that water based lotions are. Yes, I do make my own creams. As for bath bases .. I make my own soaps including bar soaps and liquid soaps (shower gel too). Those don't contain any SLS or other synthetic detergents. I haven't found them to need a preservative to date either (has to do with the pH being alkaline - around 9 or so). Bubble bath is a tricky one. I've yet to find a formula that actually bubbles nicely and then the bubbles stay! The liquid soap foams great but those bubbles don't last in the tub water ... so far decyl polyglucose seems to be the most friendly synthetic option for that. *Smile* Chris (list mom - not quite awake yet - need caffeine *lol* Virgin Red Palm Oil - ON SALE NOW! http://www.alittleolfactory.com janeec2003 [jane_cummins] hello again i asked this before with no reply ........are any of you guys using them with your creams and bathbases or are you making them yourselves..........
