Guest guest
Hi, I never did hear back from anyone about that EO flashpoint and soapmaking question I posted a couple days ago so I'm going to ask again and hope someone bites this time. And I know if anyone can answer that, they are somewhere in this group " Does the Flashpoint of a EO dictate how much scent will be lost during the insulation/curing process of soapmaking? For example, I had the opportunity to buy a Eucalyptus EO with a flash point of 109 and other that was described as having a citronella like fragrance that had a flashpoint of 165. I know my soap heats up in the insulation phase (you know right after it traces and you pour it into the molds) most likely beyond 109. SO does this mean that if my soap is hotter than 109 that I will lose the Eucalyptus fragrance if I use the EO with a flashpoint of 109? I just need to know how this works. (I'd rather not have to use the one that smells like citronella.) " Thanks, Marianne
Guest guest
Hi Marianne, Sorry this question got lost in the shuffle! No, flash point does not have anything to do with it losing its fragrance in soap when it is doing its CP gel thing What has to do more with that is if an oil is a " top note " " middle note " or " base note " .. with top notes being more volatile and dissipating faster than either middle notes or base notes. Citrus oils tend to need " anchors " to stay good in soaps, while scents like patchouli last a lot better (some folks will use patchouli to " anchor " an oil like orange for example). Also, oils that have an overpowering scent like Mint or Ylang Ylang will need to be used in smaller quantities to stink up your batch of soap <grinz>. I think you should be able to use your eucalyptus without a problem *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Marianne [mccreadj] Hi, I never did hear back from anyone about that EO flashpoint and soapmaking question I posted a couple days ago so I'm going to ask again and hope someone bites this time.
