Guest guest
I'm so excited! I got these two chickens in June and Nothing ever happened. August I started giving them laying mash. Still nothing. My father told me that they were probably " seasonal Layers " and not to expect anything until spring. Well, it's been cold lately. Down around the thirties and because I'm a delicate flower and didn't want to brave the cold, the chickens haven't been let out until around 10 am. This morning it was bang on 10 and I hear this FUSS being made. I'm thinking, what does she WANT? Then I thought " I recognize that kind of racket, but no one is laying... " So I went out in me jim-jams (yes, I'm still not dressed yet), opened their door out came two chickens and a pissed off duck (He doesn't like to stay in there late in the mornings). Looked in, Nothing... so I looked up top in the " Nursery " , THREE EGGS and one fresh out of the oven! WHEEEEEEEE! Now I'm wondering how long she's been laying and where on earth has that devious bird been laying her eggs. Hmmmmmm. Doing the Snoopy Dance! First thing Hunny Bunny did when he saw the eggs was to go into the cupboard, bring out a bowl and yell " WHEEL! " So I've promised him cookies with the new eggs using the Wheel (the mixer). LOL! I gotta go take a shower and get dressed now I s'pose! LOL! Cheers! Guest guest
Chickens usually have to be at least 6 months old before they start to lay eggs. Some breeds will lay sooner and other will start to lay a little later. How old were they when you got them ? Sounds like some real good eating! I wish that I lived out in the country so I could keep some hens. Surburbia has huge drawbacks. Hope you all enjoy them (and that you don't accidentally find some old eggs that she has hidden off somewhere! PHEW!) I've got to get to work... so much to do for Dec birthdays and Christmas and on and on... I got to stay away from the 'puter more during this month! Kathleen, As a former chicken-momma who had to leave her feather-babies back in the states, and misses them dreadfully - allow me to send you my utmost, heartfelt congratulations!!
