Hi,

I have an uncle going in for surgery. They are going to remove a

muscle from one part and replace a muscle in his arm. Anyhow he has

asked me to make him a salve or something that will relieve the pain

and help heal the skin. I'm thinking of making a salve with olive

oil, beeswax and 2 tbsps each chickweed, wormwood, and yarrow. Any

thoughts on how this might work or if I should try another route.

I'm open to all suggestions Thanks in advance.

Hi Veronica,

Your salve sounds wonderful!

I always suggest using the homeopathic Arnica Montana. It drastically

reduces swelling, bruising and pain from surgery and therefore speeds

the healing process. Arnica is available in any vitamin store, and is

very inexpensive.

I would suggest using it internally for a week before surgery, and it

can be continued after. No contraindications with meds. You can also

use the cream topically.

Wishes for a speedy recovery for your uncle.

Veronica, how nice to have your family respect

what you do!

How about some comfrey to speed up healing,

and birch leaves or poplar buds for pain?

Those are two important ingredients in my

herbal buddy Maggie's liniment. I used it

after I had broken an ankle and found it

very helpful.

I have a shelf full of tinctures, but I don't

bother with salves. Much easier to let M.

do it and buy some...
