Guest guest
Hi, A few months ago, I was feeling very poorly, with dry skin that was itchy, and would come up in welts if I scratched it. I was very tired and forgetful and the area around my liver was painful. I happened to be looking through my cupboard of all my study manuals and came across an old herbal book with the story of Swedish Bitters in it. I believed it to be more than a coincidence, so after reading the manuscript, I bought a bottle and have been taking it ever since. I also made a poultice and put it on the liver area, covered it in Clingfilm and went to bed. I repeated it in the morning and following day, and was very surprised to find the ache had lessened considerably. My skin has improved so much and my mind is a lot clearer. Upon reading all I can, I found that we are supposed to have 4 different types of food to keep balanced. Sweet, sour, salty and bitter. The bitter ones are very important for cleansing of the liver, and as we are more inclined to eat sweeter food, the liver cannot cope . My father was suffering from dreadful sinusitis, and he followed the instructions given and after 2 days of coughing up very old mucus, he is feeling so much better. Another friend suffers from arthritic pain in her knees. she is a school teacher and was finding it hard to keep up with her 8 year old students. she has found using a poultice of the Swedish bitters on her knee at night has made a big difference. When you use it as a poultice, it is important to put oil on the skin first. Maybe this can be of some assistance, here is the website. http://www.swedishbitters.com/ I am still taking a teaspoon morning and night in a glass of water. It is really bitter, but over the past 8 weeks, it has got easier to swallow. HTH Jeanine
Guest guest
Jeanie, I've used Swedish Bitters for years and just love it. Always have a small bottle with me with a dropper, for I have a sluggish gallbladder and some foods can give me fits. A few drops of Swedish Bitters under my tongue and I am good to go... Maria Treben, a well known German herbalist, has written several books and heavily relied on SB. I get my herbs for it from the Merz Apothecary in Chicago. they also have Maria Treben's books, in English and German. I actually crave the stuff... Guest guest
Nice... it's interesting to see how this corresponds to what we learned in our Shiatsu and Nutrition classes. In Chinese medicine, the Liver is the seat of the emotions, and is often connected to anger issues which manifest in rashes and other skin conditions. We also talked about how Americans are sooo not into Bitter. Generally we're very into Sweet :-) When you get over the extreme symptoms, you might try adding a daily dose (a small amount will do) of steamed greens, e.g. collards, kale, rabe, etc., to your diet. You can also use Chlorella, which is cleansing but also supporting/building. The best stuff on the market is Prime Chlorella: http://www.primechlorella.com/ People with signs of Deficiency (skinny, even underweight), subdued/introverted/quiet, weakness, etc should be careful of overcleansing. Greens and chlorella should be fine; bitter tinctures and cleansing herbs (burdock, yellowdock, chapparal, etc) might not be. Hope you're feeling good :-) I miss seeing you on KR. }{ugs, Josh >Hi, >A few months ago, I was feeling very poorly, with dry skin that was >itchy, and would come up in welts if I scratched it.
