If we look at the historical cultural background of the citizens of New Mexico we understand why. Ask a Kansan and we can also get negative input about Texas .. it has to do with the cattle drives and such .. all the attitudes are based on historical events. " To which I as a New Mexican (altho transplanted from PA via Calif) can somewhat heartily agree - If Texans wanted everyone to speak kindly of them they should have thought of it before stamping all over!! I would probably say that we (NM-icans) actually don't really *dislike* Texans, so much as we find them kind of amusing in a larger-than-life kind of way. But we *do* love these Texan tourist $$!! <bg> in friendship with those pesky Texans (including my little sister) Ivy
Guest guest
Yo Chris, I know my reply is not politically correct but I believe it is correct. Unfortunately, many folks who are drawn to this industry have a tendency to blow smoke up each others butts and try to come across as being more understanding than the situation actually requires or allows. ;-) > Yep Butch, > > You've been in Europe long enough to know just how much of a curiosity > Americans are to the world *lol* ... Yep .. and the unfortunate part is .. I have been trained and have a good bit of hands on experience dealing in international relations. Its not a matter of being conservative or liberal .. but of knowing what its really about and understanding the history and need of such relations. > Heck, I'm originally from NYC and we're THE curiosities all over the US, > let alone the world. To top it off, I'm in TX now, and from my travels > I've learned that Texans are in 3rd place as far as being curiosities > across the US goes. Texans are the runner ups to New York city folks who > are absolutely #1 - and Californians who are #2 ;-p) .. I guess I have > to go live in CA for a while to complete myself in that area <grinz> You have said this before .. I disagreed then and I disagree now. ;-) Texas and Texacans are held in great esteem by those who know the real history of the USA. Texacans are a proud lot who paid a heavy price for their freedom and their way of life. There has probably been more blood spilled per square meter of land in Texas than in any other state West of the Mississippi. One could make a career of studying their history. If you ask a New Mexican you can expect to hear negative remarks about Texas. If we look at the historical cultural background of the citizens of New Mexico we understand why. Ask a Kansan and we can also get negative input about Texas .. it has to do with the cattle drives and such .. all the attitudes are based on historical events. Easy it is to understand why those who live in New York City are seen as strange .. because they are .. students of American history can talk about that too. ;-) Upper state New York is a totally different animal from the City. What is missing is cultural identity and homogeneity. New York City is a lot like Adana, Turkey. Perhaps 10% - 15% of the residents of Adana are true Adanans .. same goes for Istanbul. Easy it is to understand why many folks see Californians as being wild, regardless of the good efforts by some on the list to claim otherwise .. we must call it as it is. California is more like another country than like another state. If there is going to be some wild ass " progressive " crap hitting the street we can almost be assured that it will originate in Southern California or San Francisco. Folks in Northern California want it to be made clear that they are NOT from those areas. And .. if we look at the Red/Blue Map of California we find that the Red portion covers 90% + of the state .. but its not from those folks that we hear the crazy crap .. they make no noise. Its the minority who make all the noise .. the hippies, yuppies, fruit cakes, crazies and nuts who rock the boat .. and the phonies in Hollywood who have no substance .. those hollow shells of humanity who aren't sure of their own identify. All of the above opinions I have heard from Turks who have visited New York City, California and Texas. Turks are particularly fond of Austin and Houston .. and have a strong dislike for El Paso. I share those opinions. And .. I have lived in California twice .. don't want to live there again either. I worked closely with the LAPD/LASO and SDPD/SDSO .. they are exceptions to the public they serve. I attended a Law Enforcement Assistance program on counter terrorism at San Luis Obispo once .. we had officers in attendance from the LA and SD PD & SO .. but it was a well known fact that the San Francisco PD & SO were NOT welcome by the other agencies. > *Smile* > Chris (list mom) > http://www.alittleolfactory.com Done and done .. and y'all. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com > Wonder why I'm not surprised reading the below? > > Might be because I understand it .. I get the same feeling when I read > the attitudes of many of the citizens of France .. just another French > curiosity.
