What is the botanical name for sweet grass? A couple of years ago I went to the

county extention office gardens and ask where I might buy some sweet grass.

They had some and gave me a couple of little sprigs with root stock but it died.

Would like to try it again in another location in my yard ( I think it drowned),

but want to make sure I'm getting sweet grass and not something else.

Anita,

Sweetgrass ( hierochloe oderata ) looks like other grasses, it grows

like grass, in grassy areas.

You just have to know what is what when you harvest it 'strand' by strand.

It likes to grow where in spring you have moisture standing, planted

right after the snow melts. For the first year, keep other grasses away

from it so they can establish. It likes full morning sun, grows on the

edges of hardwoods.

It's the first grass to bloom and can be cut several times a year.
