Guest guest
ok- i noticed the same thing- the smell is horrible of the unrefined i used as well- is there a NATURAL way of getting the smell out?????? Pandemonia <pandemonia wrote:Well, I did my first whipped shea butter - the results are still pending. I did it very unscientifically since I've yet to procure a decent scale. I dumped my unrefined shea into a metal bowl and whipped it with my kitchen beaters. When it looked creamy, I tossed in some cornstarch, some vitamin E and essential oils. No measuring whatsoever. I'm REALLY not fond of the unrefined shea scent. I put in several drops of patchouli & sandalwood - still nasty. Finally put in a lot of bay rum and that has helped, though I can still smell that shea sneaking through! My husband and I put some on our hands. The greasy feel went away shortly after putting it on. Now it feels soft and quite nice. I don't think I'd slather myself with this before going to a party or anything, but we'll see how it works. Tonight before bed, I'll try it on my arms & legs, which are very dry. Hopefully, I'll de-stink-ify by tomorrow! ; ) Pan
Guest guest
I think it's something that grows on ya~ I was used to getting refined or ultra refined then purchased unrefined organic. Boy what a hoot. I thought I was gonna gag. but I had 5 lbs of it to get rid of. So as I started using it, I fell in love with it. Now I prefer the yellow shea or the refined but use quite a bit unrefined in soap. sindy - Shea Butter smell ok- i noticed the same thing- the smell is horrible of the unrefined i used as well- is there a NATURAL way of getting the smell out?????? I used a bit of Butch's Rose Hydrosol and a bit of Chris' Virgin Oil de Coco Creme-- melted them all together and mixed well. (I also tried some avocado, apricot and jojoba oils in the mix-- all are good.) My idea was that the Rose Hydrosol would really moisturize the skin, along with the nourishing shea butter. I used just a pinch of borax with the Rose Hydrosol, one of the recipes suggested that to help mix the Hydrosol with the oils. It actually smells really good! My mother thought it smelled like pudding! I've got TWO rambunctious kittens trying to help me type this!! --Sue
Guest guest
Hi Sindy I have found the lighter the shea butter the lesser the smell . The last shipment I recived from Ghana was very light almost white and very little smell. but the golden yellow had a little stronger smell the golden did really well in soaps and the unrefined lighter is fab for lotion or cream it give a really silky feel to the cream . It has been tested and given a grade A for cosmetic use. sharon sindy anderson <sssoap wrote: I think it's something that grows on ya~ I was used to getting refined or ultra refined then purchased unrefined organic. Guest guest
Hi all, I made a large pot of Baby Bum Balm for my new great granddaughter (!!!) and used unrefined shea with infused oils. I warned my grandson and his wife that they might find the smell a bit strange but they commented that they loved it as it smelled 'real'...not like the usual commercial stuff that smells synthetic. Guest guest
Hi Nerys! Glad your great granddaughter (congratulations!) enjoyed the unrefined shea. Course, the poor little thing, couldn't complain at this point! ; ) Course, maybe if she grow up on it, she'll be used to the smell! Natural or not, I've decided that it's simply not the base for me. As I mentioned to someone else, if I should develop serious skin problems, I may choose to retract that statement. Good to hear from you! : ) Pan - M and N Purchon Monday, February 21, 2005 7:13 PM Re: Shea Butter smell Hi all, I made a large pot of Baby Bum Balm for my new great granddaughter (!!!) and used unrefined shea with infused oils.
