Guest guest
thought id share with yall today some info i learned from 1st hand experience- my 4 yr old decided today to touch and and chew on a elephant ear plant- there was lots of people around when it happened and he started to scream as soon as he bit into.... he was screaming his tongue was stinging and his whole body was itching...... i questioned abut the plant and was told he was overeacting and liked the attention and that the plant was a plant all over florida and not poisonous- thank God i went to the er and not listened- it IS poisonous and they gave him meds right away.... i found out its the little chrystals on it that make the stinging reaction and thankfully he spit it out and didnt swallow it- just a thought for those mothers out there with little ones to be more aware of the plants that surround us- caty
Guest guest
Same with the Diffenbachia. The crystals cause the voice box to paralyze if swallowed....sometimes I think about throwing some over the fence when the neighbor's dogs wake me up at 6 am. Just kidding. http://www.aspca.org/toxicplants/M01846.htm Its nick name is Dumb Cane. List of poisonous plants. http://www.aspca.org/toxicplants/M01947.htm Kat
Guest guest
Yikes! I hope you told whoever owned that plant about what you learned (and gave them an earful about their response that your child was simply " overreacting and liking the attention " when he could have died or gotten seriously ill) so they keep it away from other little kids. Good warning for those with children... some of the most decorative plants are the worst for ingestion. I'm glad your son came out okay.
