Guest guest
Hi y'all, Is this about politics .. or history .. or .. nationalism? Maybe! Some might say its about prejudice or discrimination .. but they would be wrong if they thought I was prejudice or would discriminate. As a young man I married a Vietnamese Buddhist (RIP) and later a Turkish Moslem .. and now have a relationship with a Russian Christian. My Mother's mother was Jewish .. my Mother's father was a Catholic .. and I follow the path of Native American Spiritualism. I believe the below is about reality and I believe it is the obligation of Americans (and citizens of any other nation) to pay close attention to reality. We are NOT a Global Society .. and I believe we never will be! Is the below Politically Correct? Hell No~! To approach such issues in a Politically Correct manner would require us to bury our heads in the sand and not discuss them at all~! As an amateur historian with some knowledge about the rise and fall of various great nations, a trained sociologist, an experienced political analyst, and a full time realist .. I think the below deserves a read because it contains a glimpse of where America might be heading. Persian, Roman, Greek, Ottoman and other great Nation States fell, and though their demise did cause a hiccup or two in world events the heart of the world continued to beat. Will the world be better off or worse off if what we think of as American or Canadian or any other Western Democratic culture also becomes a chapter(s) in history books? Right Wingers will beat their drums in support of the position below and Liberals will scream that its a negative and chauvinistic approach to the issue of equality of nationalities. They both (mayhaps) will have some valid points. We can all be equal .. and individual .. and have less than we have now .. but shared by all. This statement brings to mind the very ideal (and very unreal) dogma of Socialism (Communism). The position of former Governor Lamm (D-Col) is not (methinks) all that controversial .. unless we close our eyes to reality and pretend that the Emperor has New Clothes .. and some folks will do just that. A smart lady who is in the middle of the road politically .. mentioned a tale about a yard man named Luis doing yard work in the heat of the day. She went on to say that it is sad that many Americans will not get up early in the morning or even go out late in the afternoon to do this type of work. Some of us must do for ourselves .. others are exactly what many people from many countries say about us .. as a Nation we are Fat .. Lazy .. Spoiled AMERICANS who don't clean our homes or cook our own food if we can hire others to do it for us. When I was growing up in rural Kentucky .. early each morning there were dozens of men at the Todd County Court House Square waiting to be given day work on the local farms. As a teenager, in the summer I was always one of those waiting on the square. We can't find ONE person on the court house square today. The farmers have been forced to hire Pedro, Juan, Armando, Chico, Salazar and Luis .. among many others .. to keep their farms running. These migrant workers are good workers .. they work hard and are given a fair wage and a decent place to live. Most of the money they make is sent back home. Without them many of the farms in Todd County, Kentucky would go under in a short time. Should we fire Luis, the yardman, and ask Governor Lamm to take care of our yard? Should we send these migrant workers away because they are taking work that Americans SHOULD .. but WILL NOT .. take? That's an option .. though not a good one methinks because, unfortunately, we need these hard working folks. I think a better option is to give Luis and all the migrant workers presently in the USA a Green Card or maybe US Citizenship and then exercise responsible control of immigration. Those who might think my solution borders on Nationalism are exactly correct! The Saudis (and some other nations) hire Third World Nationals to do everything for them but brush their teeth and I believe that America is (as they are) on a short road to disaster! Are we thinking of our children? Will they be able to make it on their own after we have been giving them everything they want? Probably not in the America we know today .. but again, will the demise of America as we know it today rock the world? Yes .. but only for a half century or so .. the world will continue to turn and will grow accustomed to the change. As for me .. I hope my grandchildren's children will not be forced to face such a change .. but perhaps its bit too much to hope for now. I betcha a purty that many years ago some Persian, Roman, Greek and Ottoman fathers/grandfathers had the same hopes! Are Americans spoiled .. and do we have too much money? Having lived outside the USA for more than half my life .. having worked in 29 countries and visited in another 20 or so .. I can easily answer those questions .. HELL YES~! In any case .. here is what former Governor Lamm had to say on the subject .. just recently: Urban Legends Reference Pages: Politics (Governor Richard Lamm on Multiculturalism) http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/lamm.asp Y'all have a good day .. and keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
