Guest guest
Bonnie, That's it! Isn't it lovely? Last year my grandson decided to weed for me, out of the blue, and pulled up several mulleins I had in the front yard, before I could stop him. He now knows what mullein looks like. DH just mows around them for me. Yes, we live in the country so no one can complain about the " weeds " growing out front. Judy
Guest guest
I must have missed the original post on this... can somebody post the benefits? It's a lovely plant, and I have two in my side yard. Guest guest
hi kristen, i actually just jumped in with help on identifying the " ugly weeds " growing in the vacant lot next to me ... so i don't think you missed anything. i am studying Rosemary Gladstar's Science & Art of Herbology and one of my assignments is to collect some mullein for infusing in olive oil. the benefits of mullein, according to my course materials are for: ear aches, inflamations, bronchial inflamations, chest congestion, bruises, sprains swollen joints and arthritis. unfortunately, i don't have time to post more than that ... but it's a great little-big plant to have around. Common mullein, aka Verbascum thapsus. Here's more information http://botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/m/mulgre63.html and http://www.mofga.org/mofgs997.html And, here's some pictures of the wide variety of mulleins. http://davesgarden.com/pf/b/Scrophulariaceae/Verbascum/ My personal favorite is Greek Mullein http://www.victoryseeds.com/catalog/herbs/Verbascum_olympicum.html What I love about Mullein is that the huge leaves catch the flowers as they fall for easy gathering. One of the primary traditional herbal uses is the infused flower oil combined with infused garlic oil as an ear oil for earaches. Be well, Marcia Elston, Samara Botane, http://www.wingedseed.com " First of all, cultivate a contented spirit; a garden is a good place to begin.
