Guest guest
Well, after a brief summer hiatus - the Herb of the Week is back! The Herb of the Week this week - July 25 - 31st - is Turmeric (Curcuma longa) I will post various info about this herb all week, and I hope that anyone who has any personal experience with this plant will not hesitate to post about it too :-D *Smile* Chris (list mom) <http://www.alittleolfactory.com/> http://www.alittleolfactory.com
Guest guest
I made little bath soaps for a baby shower using turmeric for the color. They came out a soft buttery color which was great since the soaps were duck shaped! Plus they had the most wondefully silky lather that seemed to be very " soothing " feeling. My cousin has used the soaps on her 9 wk old baby and said that the soaps are great and very mild for his skin, so... Just wanted to share!! ) Michelle
Guest guest
I have a personal experience to share ;-) In the produce section at Fiesta Mart here in Austin, I bought some little tubers labeled 'tumeric'. They smelled like tumeric and had the classic orange flesh. I planted them in my garden, and they've been out there for three (or is it four?) years! The second year they bloomed. It wasn't a spectacular bloom and it didn't have any fragrance, but it was a nice addition to the beauty of the plant. The first year I planted it in a sunny location. It did bloom there, but looked bad in the summer, but did seem to expand in size. The second year I took some pups from the original plant and planted them in a shady location. They look better there and they produce blooms, but don't seem to be multiplying in that spot. I wish I had more of those highly prized 'morning sun, afternoon shade' spots! Guest guest
I use turmeric infused oil all the time for coloring CP soap yellow . . . just love it. More recently I've been taking turmeric to balance (alkanize) my body's pH . . . it's working pretty well. My chiropractor also told me it's a good anti-inflammatory, good for arthritis. Makes sense, as there seems to be a link between an acidic pH and arthritis.
