Hi Samantha....My name is Karen and I live in Australia....I don't often

post anything on this list....but, your email really rouched a chord in

me. You see, my 5 year old grandson, Zane, has been diagnosed with mild

to moderate autism.

I am a fully accredited aromatherapist...and I do know that burning...use

electric with children around rather than a candle oil burner...lavender

is calming, soothing and children love sweet orange, mandarin, tangerine.

I had one of my neighbours children come into my kitchen recently for a

fund raiser and the first thing he said was " your house smells nice " ..I

think I was just burning lavender essential oil (EO).

I personally think using essential fatty acids helps ADHD... Evening

Primrose Oil and fish oil....and there was something on it on our

television tonight. They (doctors, hospitals , I think) did a test using

these oils on children who do have ADHD and they also used (???? sorry,

I've gone blandk) 'blind' capsules on half of the children and the ones

who had used the fish oil and EPO had markedly noticable differences and

improvements in behaviour and concentration etc.

Don't apply the EO's topically.....tho, lavender is the only safe EO that

can be used topically....but, I'd suggest for you to trial it by burning

the oil and you can use the lavender EO (several drops in a bath - it

disperses in a spoonful of milk)....put a couple of drops around neck of

pyjames and note any difference in behaviour and sleep. :))

I would appreciate, if you were to do this, your feedback please

Samantha.

Take care of yourself and your family....

Hi Karen. Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry to hear about your

grandson. Its truely a shame what's happening to this generation of

kids.

Yes, essential fatty acids are great. My kids take Nordic naturals

ultimate omega and organic flax oil among other supplements.

They've made lots of progress with treating for yeast, supplements,

heavy metal chelation using Andy Cutler's (low & slow) protcol.

Another thing that's helped tremedously is Theraputic listening with

sensory integration therapy/physical therapy.

Are there different kinds of lavender EO?

Thanks,

Add my **Really??!!** to that as well. :o)

Providing we are talking diluted oils here, I totally disagree with this

statement.......

oh dear....yes, Liz...you're right ...I had meant applied

neat...undiluted. Lavender is the only essential oil that could be

applied neat....and sometimes tea tree.

All the other oils need to be diluted in a base oil/cream

Hi Karen

Sorry to tell you this but you have old, outdated information. Many on this list

can tell you that new information coming out of Australia shows that Tea Tree

should not be used undiluted. There has been so much usage of tea tree on so

many people and in so many products that even high dilutions can be problematic.

AND there are are those who can graphically tell you that lavender is not safe

also. Marge, and Lynda, my wife, are both allergic to lavender.

Moral of the story. NO OILS are safe for everyone undiluted..........

Be aware..

May I ask..... why?

In a way, your implying is that if not used diluted in a base oil/cream EO's are

Not safe.

I have used Cederwood Atlas, C Roman, and many other oils in face masks using

ingredients like yogurt, clay and honey.

Myself and others I know use other oils neat. I've used Lemon neat on the soles

of the feet and palms of the hands during times I feel a cold or sore throat

coming on; in mixtures as perfume replacements on the wrists, etc.

I've used EO's difused in only water as deodorant replacements.

Hi Karen,

I didn’t think you meant to say they were unsafe, I only interjected because the

manner in which it was presented was be akin to saying that rye or wheat breads

are not safe to ingest unless spread with butter or jelly.

To those with known allergies to these grains, certainly, it would be advisable

to avoid but does not make breads themselves unsafe to the remainder of the

population who could eat them with no adverse consequences.

I’ve seen open wounds, scrapes heal quicker with Lavender than with anything

else. Skeptical family members that once ran for topical antibiotics now reach

for Lavender (used neat) before the Band Aids.

A combination of Tea Tree, Thyme White, Eucalyptus, Lemon, Lavender, Citronella,

applied neat, used patiently, works extraordinarily well for stubborn nail

fungus.

EO’s do have contra indications, i.e. Rosemary, Ylang Ylang, (blood pressure)

and yes, I agree because of potency, like anything else should be used

cautiously and wisely and not without first familiarizing oneself with their

properties or consulting those more familiar with their use.

I have no problem stating that as a personal preference, I use them “neat”

whenever possible. My sister on the other hand claims to have sensitivities and

cannot tolerate what she calls the over powering scents of EO’s. Yet, she

wears the most popular designer perfumes and other products laden with chemicals

and colors.

EO’s, being natural essences, have unique vibrational frequencies which I try

not to dilute with other substances.

Best regards,

Carol

wrote:Carol.....Generally speaking essential Oils are pretty potent. I use

lavender neat fairly often...either as a 'perfume', for insect bites,

headaches, minor burns and have never had any problems with it. So,

perhaps Graham's wife has a type of allergy to Lavender oil. ?? I used

to work in cosmetics and even products that say Non-allergenic can still

cause some sort of reaction in some people....it simply means LESS chance

of reacting..

But, I've also used tea tree neat...and during exams I used to use

rosemary eo neat...I was only giving oils and creams as an example for

dilution....it could be any sort of blend/mix. making body powders also.

I too have used lemon neat to get rid of a wart.

I'm sorry if I had implied that to use oils any other way would be

unsafe, that was not my intention. Most of the eo's which smell gorgeous

could be used safely for perfumes I'm sure....I love jasmine and others

myself. :))

Thanks Carol...:)) I do also have a friend who was having problems with

Athlete's Foot and I suggested she use neat tea tree on those

areas.....she did and it cleared up. -- no problems.... I also suggested

she wipe her shoes out with the tea tree.

I do often suggest that they do a 'test' on the inside of their elbow if

they are sensitive....

It's really funny, but I also have sensitive skin...but, have had no

problems with any eo's.....I can't use many of those creams for sore/tight

muscles you buy over the counter...yet I make a balm up for both my Mum

and Dad to use for relief of arthritis pain and I have NO problems with

that. The commercial ones just leave my hands burning really badly....for

hours. I haven't worn commercial perfume for a number of years now. I

like to make up several different blends and put into the roller ball

bottles...mixed with jojoba. It's rather funny...but, I make my own face

moisturiser (and have done so for about 10 years now)and even when I wear

just that and no perfume I've had people ask me 'what are you wearing?

...it smells nice " ...It was after I was asked about 3 times that I realised

what it had to be....lol

with warm regards,

Karen
