Guest guest
Hi All, Happy Labor Day to All. I am busy working hard in my kitchen /laboratory.... I wanted to report the result of my jewelweed oil infusion experiment yesterday with the hopes of getting further feedback from list members. So far I have found very little research done on jewelweed. The research I have found indicates that it is a very effective cure for poison ivy and other types of dermatitis. I have never seen clinical studies that test the efficacy of the infused oil, only the juice or the water based tea. Has anyone on the list come across information that studies oil based jewelweed extract? All the research I have done points toward the active chemicals being water soluble, not oil soluble. I am hoping that through the collective experience of list members, I/we can get a little better understanding of different ways to use this herb. I have tried oil infusion using both dried herb and fresh herb. I tried both again this weekend. The difference in the two methods yields markedly different results--at least in my laboratory. This time around, I tried infusing the fresh a little longer based on Veronica's suggestion. The resulting oil was a bit darker green but it had nowhere near the vibrancy and tone of color that the dried herb yielded. This time around there was a lot less water separation at the bottom of the finished oil jar as well. But I think that is due to the fact that we have had extremely dry conditions here in Michigan for the past month or so. At the time of the first experiment the plants had had abundant rainfall. Has anyone on this list tried both the dried and fresh plant oil infusion with jewelweed? If so, will you share your results and your deductions based on those results? I have done water infusions with both the dried and the fresh. Both yield a golden/orange oil. The dried, for obvious reasons, seems to yield a potent solution. Comments and ideas, please, please....... Mary Alana
