Guest guest
I've got a ditzey nine year old who doesn't seem to be able to focus. I'm thinking of sending him with a tiny bottle of something to help him at school. When I say tiny, I mean one of those sample bottles that I get from Butch... That way WHEN ditzoid spills it, there ain't that much to spill! LOL! I was thinking, Clary, Lemon and Lavender.... anyone have any better suggestions? -- Cheers! Guest guest
If you think I'm giving MY precious Sandalwood to that BOY.... LOL! I thought of Rosemary and might opt out the Lavender as it CAN cause drowsiness and the last thing the wandering brain needs is a bit of drowz... Guest guest
Hmmmm.... you don't think that might be a bit too " girlie " . He does have an image to maintain after all! Will think on the Y-Y. Right now I'm at: Rosemary, Clary, Lemon. K On 9/7/05, Joshua Alexander <listservs wrote: > > LOL :-) Ylang ylang then? Guest guest
I don't like the idea of using Clary at all for concentration. I like Rosemary and Bergamot! Ylang might be too floral for a young boy to appreciate. *Smile* Chris (list mom) Think left and think right and think low and think high. Guest guest
Why not Chris? And why Bergamot? Hearing your reasoning sounds like valuable insight Here, I'll give mine too: I suggested Peppermint or Rosemary as I understand they're both good stimulants... Sandalwood or Ylang for the reason given in a previous email. Lemon might not smell as tantalizing as Bergamot, but it was shown to improve test scores when diffused in the classroom... so I like that :-) >I don't like the idea of using Clary at all for concentration. > >I like Rosemary and Bergamot! >

Guest guest
You might want to try soaking wooden pencils in the oils you choose. I did that for my daughter to help her combat anxiety in elementary school, and there was no problem with spillage. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, A few years ago, I tried something similar for my unfocused child. Someone suggested that I should let HIM pick out the oils. He ended up choosing sweet orange and lavender. I thought it was an excellent choice! I diffused the blend while he was doing his homework and studying for tests, then I gave him one of those vial necklaces to wear to school. I gotta tell you what happened the first day he wore it to school-- it was confiscated by the principal and then I was sent a letter regarding their zero tolerance policy!! I immediately called the school and was told in so many words that the little vial looked very similar to a cocaine vial! When I explained the purpose, they then sent me a letter outlining their medication policy, and that I would need a Rx from our doctor to administer the oils!!! UGH! After a short battle, they ended up letting my son use his necklace, but only during tests. Laura btw, I just wanted to tell you, over the past 6 or 7 years (going back to the idma list) I have really enjoyed hearing your tales concerning your kids! I have 4 also (all boys), and I take great comfort in knowing that I am not alone! Guest guest
Just a thought.... I don't know about Kathleens son, but I believe that my son had a problem with concentration due to OVER stimulation. So peppernint (or rosemary) was one of the last oils that I would want to give him. You also have to keep in mind that if the kid doesn't care for the smell he isn't going to use it! Guest guest
Hi Josh, I've always found Clary to have more of a euphoric/narcotic effective than promote concentration (kinda does the opposite for me I like the Bergamot cause to me its rays of sunshine in a bottle. Even though I'm much more a cloudy day person than a sunny day kinda gal, I really do love that stuff and it really is uplifting. I've always found it to help me focus when I'm getting bored and blah (and I'm sure we all remember being a kid in school and getting that bored and blah feeling at times in certain classes . I think a lot of citrus gives a " pick me up " effect - but Bergamot particularly so for some reason. The Rosemary is a good stimulant. It helps promote blood flow to the ol' brain and is known as " the herb of remembrance " .. Someone mentioned Basil - and that suggestion ain't half bad either! *Smile* Chris (list mom - going to have my morning Bergamot fix in the form of a cup of Earl Grey Tea) Think left and think right and think low and think high. Guest guest
Woobey, if you are thinking E.O.s for focus problems, for some reason Vetiver helps people with ADD. And, look at the allergy connection, food sensitivities, and consider getting some Aquazon into the kid.
