Guest guest
Hi folks, I'm interested in working with myrrh--I'm making a couple skin compositions--and wondering if it can be suitably extracted in oil. How about vinegar? One of my books says gum-resins in general can have gums partly or wholly soluble in water and resins soluble in alcohol, but doesn't give specifics for myrrh. BTW, any book suggestions for specific solvent info for different herbs and things? -Josh
Guest guest
Whenever I am trying to extract resins for non-specific purposes, I always go with grain alcohol. Oil works too---faster if gentle heat is applied. I don't think the vinegar will work as it's not water soluble. I have tried vinegar with balm of gilead too no avail. Haven't thought to try it with other resinous substances. I have a set of equipment used exclusively for gums and resins. What a sticky mess they can be! I would like to hear what others say on this....I need all the help I can get. Mary Alana
