Boy, do I love the stuff...:)

Usually made form pigs fat , it becomes a delicatessen when made from

goose grease, fried out with apples and onion. Has to be eaten with a

bit of salt and on good dark German bread... I cook a very expensive

goose every Christmas, just to have my " fix " ,:)

OK, maybe one has to grow up with the stuff.

The word becomes an adverb when referred to some Music, such as slow,

popular love songs that lack content or much musical quality, known as

'schmaltzig' music.

However, schmaltz is often used to prepare the skin when making

poultices that could otherwise irritate the skin and goose grease does

make a wonderful protective skin cream when living in the north and

needing to go out in winter to brave the elements.

So what you're saying Christa, schmaltz is ok to put on your skin, just don't

ingest it!! I love it. All my Jewish ancestors who died from heart disease and

strokes. Probably because most of the veins and arteries are occuled from all

that fat! They could have used it on their body s and they could have lived

longer!!

I think it's funny or ironic anyway. Mush be the goofy mood I'm in this

afternoon.

I never knew about pig fat schmaltz- that would be treyf! LOL

Someone mentioned all of our anscestors [Jewish] dying from heart

attacks and strokes- that was after they had their gallbladders,

removed.

My grandmother [and her sisters]... and then my mom's generation...

would also make a pan of stuff- gribbeness [sp]. Never made it out of

the pan, because everyone came along and picked at it with their

fingers.
