Guest guest
Hey all, I have a friend from the uk, who’s doctor has diagnosed her with menopause already at 30. I am 30 as well, so this is just unimaginable to me. Is this really possible? What can she do naturally ? Please give me ANY information you all have I don’t want to see her go through this when I’m sure there is something herbal she can do to help herself. Her doctor told her theres nothing she can do but HRT. Thanks so much, Jennifer -- Version: 7.0.344 / Virus Database: 267.11.6/111 - Release 9/23/2005
Guest guest
Jennifer, Yes it can... I'm in peri-menopause and I started having hot flashes when I was 30... It could be that she may have a family history of early menopause or it could also be a laundry list of other things. Has she had a second opinion... My thyroid is slow and that had a lot to do with my symptoms... so... If she hasn't had a second and a third opinion then she might want to check with another dr. It could be as simple as PCOS... Poly cystic ovarian syndrome. It's similar to menopause... but it's a whole different thing.... It has the same symptoms... I feel for your friend in any case. I went to 3 or 4 different dr.s before one even hinted that it might be my thyroid... and one was an endocrineologist... and a woman to boot.... Made me very angry... Black cohosh, Soy products, wild yam....that I can remember those are a few of the things I can think of off the top of my head, but it would be better if someone who has done the research also it could be medically induced... Meaning that if she's on a medication it may have that effect on her.... No matter what the Pharmaceutical companies say if you mess with your body with some chemicals it can have devastating effects on you... Menopause can start early in some people, but I would be doubtfull that anyone could have, " nothing she can do but HRT. " !!!! There are many good herbs that help with womans issues, (dong quai, chaste tree berry, blue and black cohosh, red raspberry, etc.), but your friend needs to find out what is going on in her body first before just starting randomly on herbs. She needs to examine her diet and exersize routines, she needs to inventory any meds she may be on and determine if they can be adding to her problems. I would have her check around her area and locate a reputable naturopath and consult with them. If your friend is good about doing her own studying, have her check into information on the endocrine system. This may give her more of an insight as to what is happening with her. I hope this helps and I wish her good luck! Elaine
Guest guest
Jen, I entirely agree with the need for a second opinion. Michelle of Wholistic menopause, are you on this one? It seems counter intuitive. Like, menopause is a natural event, but not at 30! Watch for my ad next Thursday. Guest guest
My best friends mom went through menopause at 27. Personally I hate it. At least the hot flashes. Weird mood swings. Loss of hair, I always had baby fine hair but it was thick. Now, I'm finding allot of red hair in my comb and brush. Guest guest
Hi Jennifer, Michelle here from Holistic Menopause. Yes indeed, women are reaching menopause earlier all the time. It is appropriately called " pre-mature menopause " . While 30 is a bit early, I have many women in my in their mid 30's. The youngest is 31. Part of the challenge is in the wording. Menopause is NOT a long span of time. It's a point in time, defined by an entire 12 months without a cycle. The long phase before (2-15 years) is called " perimenopause " . Very often, MD's just lump it all together in one word. In fact, few even use the word perimenopause and continue to prescribe estrogen during this phase. That's the LAST THING a woman needs in peri, when an excess of estrogen (caused by a drop in progesterone) is the cause behind most symptoms. Of course, her MD was completely off base to say that HRT is the " only " way to go. It's a dangerous way to go and there are many, many natural alternatives for both short-term symptom relief and long-term health. I offer many low cost e-books on my web site and my online retreat (and the e-book version) is full of all the information a woman needs to experience perimenopause and menopause with confidence and ease. I also offer a free e-book called " Understanding Your Changing Hormones " on my site at http://www.holisticmenopause.com Hope this helps relieve some of her anxiety and confusion, Michelle I have a friend from the uk, who's doctor has diagnosed her with menopause already at 30. Guest guest
I agree with getting advice from another MD Jen. I would also suggest saliva hormone testing rather than random blood draws which tend to be very inaccurate. Another thought... Is your friend suffering from any eating disorders? Does she exercise strenuously and have really low body fat? Also, did the MD determine she was in menopause because she's not having periods or because her estrogen level is low? So many little variables that are important to know. She's welcome to write to me directly at: michelle I also offer symptoms evaluations (thru e-mail) for just $10. These can really reveal a lot! Guest guest
Hi Jen, I typed a whole long response and somehow it didn't ever show up. So, I'll just add again that it actually isn't all that unusual for a woman to be experiencing perimenopause symptoms at 30. Many of the women in my are in their mid-30's, and the youngest is 31. " Premature menopause " is becoming increasingly common. Young girls are also starting their periods at 8 and 9 now. This is primarily due to xeno-estrogens in our foods and the environment. Perimenopause (2-15 years leading to actual menopause) is entirely different than menopause which is defined by an entire 12 months without a period. And, of course, MD's don't even use the word perimenopause, nor do they associate menopause with anything other than estrogen deficiency. We're still educating them! To say that HRT is the only way to go, would indicate to me that finding another MD is the only way to go. HRT is dangerous and completely unneccesary. She will only feel worst by taking this approach, and it will not protect her long-term health as was previously believed. I've got so many really informative, very inexpensive e-books on my web site, and my retreat (online or e-book) is chocked full of everything she'll ever need to know to experience peri and meno with confidence and ease. Check it out: http:/www.holisticmenopause.com Hope this helps some, Michelle , " Michelle " <michelle@h...> wrote: > I agree with getting advice from another MD Jen. Guest guest
I'm new and was reading old posts... and saw this one. well, i have a lot of health issues, including endometriosis, fibroids, adhesions and ovarian cysts. and lots of abnormal bleeding. i'm 30. i'm writing to say that menopause is *possible* at that age. my mother went through menopause at 38 and my grandma stopped her periods at 20 (don't know cause though). i just recently missed 3 periods (never happened before in 17 years) and my doctor did bloodwork and told me that i'm having pre- menopausal hormone changes. if your friends doctor did the appropriate bloodwork, and said that she's going through menopause... she probably is. the hormone levels in the blood are a pretty good indicater of what is going on in the ovaries. hormone levels in menopause are at a certain level in the bloodstream and can be measured by blood testing. based on blood work, doctors can tell what point you are in your cycle at any time, based on the ratio of hormones. second opinions are always welcome. definitely advise your friend to get a second opinion, because menopause at 30 isn't good for the body, especially the bones. but i just wanted to share my experience in this area! as far as natural treatment, i'd suggest seeing an herbalist. herbal treatment can be formulated to fit her needs. menopause is so tricky to treat, that i wouldn't recommend anything premade in a store. the only thing my doctor gave me was something called Estrace, which is a topical estrogen cream for the vaginal tissue because menopause makes the tissue thin and uncomfortable. other than that, i don't know anything about HRT. HRT seems kinda unnatural though... -melanie , " Jen Flanagan " <jenflanagan@c...> wrote: > Hey all, > > I have a friend from the uk, who's doctor has diagnosed her with menopause > already at 30.
