Guest guest
I have for years and years had problems with miscarriages. I had my 1st son at 17 and now my 2nd after being married for 8 years and trying to have a baby for 7 of them just had another baby. The Drs are still not 100% sure why I miscarry within the first 3 weeks. But we do want another one. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice since all this pergo talk? -sarah ---------- Version: 7.0.344 / Virus Database: 267.12.1/135 - Release 10/15/2005
Guest guest
Butch Owen <butchbsi Tue, 13 Apr 2004 23:04:40 -0700 Pregnancy and Use of Essential Oils Hi y'all, From one of the many pages in Martin's Archives .. this one entitled Essential Oil Safety - The Known and the Unknown. .. at URL. http://www.aromamedical.com/articles/eosafety.html " Pregnancy: Almost all of the claims made in aromatherapy books about not using certain oils during pregnancy are unfounded. Many such claims are based not on the essential oil concerned, but are from the traditionally claimed effects of the water soluble herbal extracts when taken internally. Such extracts are frequently totally different to the same plants oil. The facts are that most common essential oils are permitted food flavorings. If there were the slightest evidence that using essential oils externally was any threat to the health of a fetus, then the oils concerned would have been restricted by legislation long ago. If someone was suffering from severe morning sickness early on in pregnancy, then the smell of something like peppermint or spearmint oil may well subdue the nausea. In such a case of constant vomiting, the implanted foots is far more likely to be dislodged by the traumatic muscular contractions of the uterus, than from the effects of the inhalation of ANY essential oils. The birch and wintergreen oils are best avoided during pregnancy. This is because indications are that the main chemical is readily absorbed by the skin. High levels of this in the bloodstream are not desirable in pregnancy. " UNQUOTE (MY NOTE: I'll take it further than that and say Sweet Birch and Wintergreen should not be used on a frequent basis by ANYONE regardless of their condition .. they are not natural oils .. they contain roughly 98% Methyl salicylate .. almost always synthetic .. but it would not matter if it were natural as the body processes both VERY badly. The liver does not process them well and they accumulate. Infrequent use would probably not harm a person with a healthy liver .. but the reasons most folks use them is for chronic problems so infrequent use is not the norm. I can't tell you just how healthy my liver is .. maybe other folks know more about theirs.) Martin goes on .... " Clary sage is perfectly safe in a normal pregnancy, but should perhaps be avoided by anyone with a history of early miscarriages. " (MY NOTE: I think this is a case of him bending to the majority cause there is no reliable information to support this. Still .. we keep in mind that almost all miscarriages occur during the 1st trimester .. but Clary has gotten a bad reputation (undeserved) for MAYBE causing grief if a person has a history of miscarriages. My buddy who deals with the difficult pregnancies at Hacetepe Hospital says that a woman who has had frequent miscarriages is not listening to the messages Mama Nature is giving her .. something is wrong and it is continuing to go wrong .. but it can often be repaired. I hope Martin jumps in .. there are herbal solutions (NOT essential oils solutions) for ladies who have such problems. Martin has considerable experience in that area.) Martin goes on .. " The main contra-indication of essential oils use during pregnancy is the heightened chance of causing skin irritation. It is quite common in late pregnancy for the skin to become very itchy and sometimes inflamed. In such circumstances essential oils in massage or the bath might make the condition worse. " This one entitled .. Incorrect Safety - An Example Of Disinformation. http://www.aromamedical.com/articles/incorrectsafety.htm This one with some information for nursing mothers .. and entitled Fragrance & Human Fertility. http://www.aromamedical.com/articles/odourbad.html Folks might wanna stroll through the Archives portion of Martin's site at http://www.aromamedical.com/articlesarchive.html Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
