Guest guest
Hi Joyce, You've probably already received lots of great advice, and I am by no means an expert on the topic (!!), however I thought I'd chime as I've also SUFFERED from UTI's! I went through a period where I had an infection at least once a month which coincided with an extremely stressful period of my life. There is definitely a correlation there!!! ( I was on antibiotics quite a number of times as the attacks were severe and set in extremely quickly. I was always told that you must get on top of the infections quickly because it can quickly lead to kidney infections and cause damage. Here are the 'things' that have really helped me (please excuse me if I'm repeating what others have already said): - hygiene is a major thing. Wiping properly (front to back), also (and this won't apply to your daughter) urination and bathing immediately after sex is also very important. - urinate frequently (every couple of hours), don't hold on! - reduce stress (easier said than done, however I found that as soon as I allowed my stress levels to get the better of me...) - cut out coffee, sugar, alcohol, anything acidic, probably dairy also (helped me), red meat (so my doctor told me) - drink lots and lots of clean water - drink 100% cranberry juice with no added sugar (I watered it down as I found it too much after a while). I've been told the juice apparently stops the bacteria from 'stick' to the sides of your bladder/urinary tract and is therefore flushed out. - Ural/citravescent sachets you can buy from the pharmacy which helps neutralize the acids in urine (this will only help with the symptoms.) Even 1 teaspoon of bicarb soda in water can help. - I took cranberry tablets (strong dosage), probiotics, garlic, echinacea and eventually some herb tablets made specifically for UTI. I continued to take them for at least two weeks after the attack had subsided. As other's have mentioned, there are a number of great herbs to use as teas. - I also found that Bach Flower Rescue Remedy helped ALOT - A friend told me that she applied natural yoghurt topically for relief. I thought she was getting confused with Thrush, but thought I'd give it a go anyhow.... it did help! - I've read to use sandalwood in a fixed oil to massage into the lower abdomen Haven't tried this one yet. - positive thinking! After going through bout after bout of UTI, and being rather depressed about that, my work situation and other things, I was sick and tired of the pain etc. Bit of a vicious circle happening! I decided that I wasn't going to let it get the better of me and firmly said to myself " NO MORE!!! " , consequently I didn't suffer from UTI again for quite some time after that. - I've also read to follow many precautions that relate to Thrush also, ie wearing cotton underpants, avoid stockings/nylons etc, avoid perfumed soaps, talc powder, bubble baths. Hope some of this helps! Hugs Holly .... and back into lurkdom.. ) On 14/10/05, Ladybugscreations.com < wrote: > question in regards to this since my daughter has probs with UTI's ALL the > time -- would filtered water from a fridge be okay?
