Guest guest
Hi Ien, > Dear Butch, > > If your beautiful Tania cooks from scratch like a > good European, and incorporates lots of green > leafy veggies, you don't have to worry about a > lack of folate. I reckon I don't need to worry about it yet .. but a Spring Chicken I ain't and I plan to live long enough to have to worry about it. ;-) Fer'shur Tanya is a great cook .. and about half of what we eat is raw in any case. A typical breakfast is oatmeal with a side plate of red and green sweet peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, black and green olives, white (feta) cheese and various fruits .. Turkey has fresh fruits year around. Lunch is a light snack .. normally yogurt, veggies, a sandwich .. supper is a homemade soup, some form of potatoes, a meat or fish dish, fresh, dried and pickled veggies (with lots of garlic), onions, romaine lettuce and fresh from the bakery whole grain bread .. and fruit for dessert. We both love raw onions and raw garlic .. use a lot of both. In fact, I had to learn if she liked them afore I asked her to marry me cause I was not about to stop eating them. ;-) Truth is .. I have gained back two of the 15 kilos I lost in less than a month .. we walk an hour each day but I am now eating and sleeping like a normal human being. ;-) > This is typical of the reductionist " this for that " thinking > that characterizes modern Western medicine. Yep .. and proud I am that Tanya also dislikes the idea of pills for all ills .. she is learning the value of EOs quickly. > Supplementing with any of the B vitamins in > isolation is always tricky. > A surplus of one may induce lack of another. > > Folate ( I forget its B number) has to be harmonized > with B 6 and B12, among others. > > Other factors that play a role in preventing > Alzheimers are essential fatty acids and the > anti-oxidants. Another new buzz word. > > If you are worried about a lack of anything, try a > whole-foods based supplement rather than a pill > consisting of fractioned, isolated man-made > vitamins. There are many good products out there. No question that free radicals can accelerate the effect of aging on our cells .. and getting rid of free radicals all together would be a bad thing because all free radicals are not bad .. they're byproducts of normal cell activity, and without them, oxygen couldn't react with other molecules to maintain basic biological functions. Turning calories into energy .. for example .. is free radical production. Its the wandering free radicals that aren't doing what they should do that cause problems. And there is no question that the proper foods can slow the effects of aging. There is more info on Folate and the " Super Foods " coming up in the next post I send. And .. there are tons of studies showing that physical activity .. staying as physically fit as possible .. slows aging of the body and the mind. > I have no idea what makes it into Turkey. All of the European and some American pill pushing and vitamin companies are represented here .. difference is the prices are far less than in the USA simply because folks can't pay the prices they get there. In fact, some medications (like antibiotics) are TOO CHEAP .. and though they are clearly marked as " Prescription Only " they can be purchased over the counter without a prescription at any drug store. Many affluent Turks consume antibiotics each time they get a sniffle .. and they get sniffles often because their immune systems are lower than whale dung. The peasants use rural remedies .. and are more healthy. > Y'all keep eatin' that good home-cooking, > and don't forget to dry the dishes. Done and done. I like being around my wife so drying the dishes is not a chore for me. I am a domesticated Redneck now. ;-) > Ien in the Kootenays > **************************** > I can finish my own sentences again! > muddled Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
