A while back I received a Kilo of Manuka in the mail on a very hot day

in the summer. As I opened the aluminum container with some effort, it

sounded like a bomb going off. The inner part (like a cork) popped out

and the contents literally exploded into my face and eyes. I had a LOT

of Manuka in my eyes. I closed my eye and touched my face to try to get

a sense of what damage had occurred as the force made it feel like I'd

been hit in the face with a brick- or perhaps more like shot. It felt

like my skin was intact and what I needed to do was rinse the Manuka

out of my eyes quickly. I thought for a moment and actually reviewed

all of the " correct " (all contradictory) approaches. All options were

close by- milk, oil, or water. I chose water and lot's of it. My heart

was racing as I was trying to anticipate what I would do next-

expecting a trip to the ER would be needed and finding someone to get

me there. Luckily, the water did the trick. My face was swollen from

the impact and my eyes remained pink for a few hours, but I was ok and

did not require any other care. I later made an eye wash and kept

flushing my eyes. I was extremely fortunate that the essential oil that

had entered my eyes was *relatively* very gentle. It would have been

very different had it been Peppermint, Oregano, Clove, etc.

Anyway, I learned many lessons that day. Water works- was one of them.

Hey Sharon,

Go for it.

Right you are .. and many adults do that too.

I'm gonna tell you the truth .. gonna tell you what I and the distillers

and all the other folks who have REAL experience with EO in the eye will

tell you .. and some folks are gonna disagree with me because most of

the " novels " out and about give incorrect advice .. advice based on less

than perfect logic.

Rinse the eye with cool .. clear .. pure .. WATER! Contrary to what you

read in many of the novels and hear from folks on this or that site who

regurgitate misinformation from those novels .. and in some cases even

give personal testimonials that are most likely wishful thinking or the

result of having dreams .. DO NOT use milk or vegetable oil or any other

fatty substance!

Why Water? Why Not Veggie Oil? True it is that EO will NOT dilute in

water .. true it is that they will dilute in any fatty substance .. like

veggie oil. That is the answer! You DO NOT want to dilute the EO and

have it spread all over the eye .. you want it to flush right out of the

eye and the ONLY liquid I know of that will do this is Water. Water is

IN FACT what distillers use .. and its what we use in my company.

Rare is the distiller who has not had a splash of EO in the eye. I

too have first hand experience in this regard.

I'm overemphasizing this point because since 1995 I have seen dozens of

posts that misinformed readers .. and in all cases .. the distillers and

those who lived down where the rubber meets the road came on line and

corrected that misinformation .. but it refuses to go away because of

the improper logic .. or extrapolation of facts and creation of an

assumption that if EO dilutes in a carrier and then applying veggie oil

to the eye is good .. but in this situation that is not pertinent.

Maybe .. though its not necessary to think of them as such.

Not gonna say that what you did was wrong because dermal application is

not the same as getting it in the eye .. or in/on any mucus membrane.

> Another time I put an oil all over my stomach and it was one hot time.

If it was Oregano .. I can understand. ;-) ALL EO must be diluted and

you know the proper/safe dilution because you OWN a copy of the Plant

Aromatics Safety Manual http://www.av-at.com/plantaromaticsavnp.html

Imagine what happens when folks allow the Young (Dumb) Living folks to

use neat oils on their skin in the ridiculous and dangerous practice of

Raindrop Therapy .. or whatever they call it now.

> I had used these oils straight out of the bottle.

That is a NO NO! ;-)

> Yes I sometimes think I know it all, but times like this change it.

It often takes a significant emotional experience to change one's

attitude .. we can only hope that the experience is such that we can

survive it and later use it as a point to teach others. :-)

> I love these oils but never underestimate them. sharon

Good show and wise it is. I love the sea .. SCUBA .. like alcohol ..

like driving my car .. like shooting firearms .. like parachuting .. and

love to use EO for this and that .. but I can never underestimate the

potential problems and /or dangers inherent in any of these activities.

Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
