Guest guest
Hi there, I have found that when the ligaments surrounding the ankle joint are not stretched out on a regular basis -any over extension in range of motion (in almost any direction) can cause pain & swelling. Whenever I try to jog my right ankle swells, I think it is a result from past trauma and the constant jarring effect. Anyway, I have found for the pain factor if I do my ABC's by the end of the alphabet there is hardly any discomfort left. Just take your big toe on the foot that hurts and imagine you are writing the alphabet with it. This makes the ankle joint go through almost every range of motion in every direction. As for swelling- I was always told that ice & compression are the way to go. I personally don't like ice so I use a compression bandage and elevate the foot above my heart for as long as I can sit still whenever I re-injure my ankles along with taking ibuprophen. Just thought I pass along the info. Sharon
