Guest guest
We are nearing the post-holiday season of sobriety, when people are looking for ways to economize. It may be tempting to try to save by skipping whatever measures you normally take to stay healthy. Whether it is body work, high-quality foods and supplements, making time for exercise, or ideally a combination of all. A word to the wise from bitter fresh experience: Getting sick is more expensive and costs more time than maintaining health. I rarely get colds or flu. My last cold was two years ago and I could pinpoint exactly what behaviours had led to it. Not enough water, not enough exercise, too much dairy and over indulgence in cheap chocolate chips while doing Christmas baking. Apart from that no bug had got the better of me for two years. I must admit to being a bit smug and self-righteous about it, as I scoffed at all offers of flu vaccines and swallowed my whole wild food supplements. It appears this was hubris, the kind of pride that comes before the fall. This time I had been pretty much behaving myself health-wise but a flu bug got me anyhow. With a cold I can generally feel something nibbling at the edges of my system and nip it in the bud with my trusty kick-ass home-made Echinacea. This thing came on like a sudden wave, no warning. I Googled Flu symptoms, as opposed to colds, and the whole thing fit like a glove. Sudden onset, all-over achy, total loss of appetite, and cold symptoms starting afterwards with lingering cough and fatigue. Compared to other people in the neighbourhood I am doing great. Back to almost-normal after about a week, cough gone, still a bit tired, and with a disgusting cold sore under my nose that just has to take its time to heal. But here is the point I wanted to make: I had forgotten how expensive it is to get sick! By the time we add the cost of Kleenex, Buckley's, (the stuff that tastes awful and works) extra lemons and honey, and cancelled Reflexology clients, we are looking at around a hundred bucks right there. So, whatever I am economizing on in the New Year, you can be sure it won't be health. Its not worth it! Ien in the Kootenays ************************* " Never mind what the book says. Guest guest
Yeah, sounds familiar in fact sounds like what I and all four kids and the husband got... I don't OFTEN get ill. My last serious bout of ill was 4 years ago, and before that another three and.... (weird fact for ya... according to the nurse at the hospital, the average HEALTHY adult contracts the flu aprx once every six years.). THIS time it was a mess... the first time I got it, the fever and aches only lasted one day, got the cough and skipped most of the fatigue... the SECOND time around has been much worse. Same flu but prolonged in the most miserable fashion. This time the fever was three days, the fatigue was overwhelming... take three steps, rest for 45 minutes just to take another three and I'm just NOW down to the last bit of rattle in me lungs and the nose is starting to clear up. Like you, I rarely get ill and am also smug about it. Except for migraines and those are mainly in the summer (I'm beginning to think they might be allergy related, will have to ask a quack if that could be) so I too relaxed on the " wellness " routine. Well, I ain't feeling so smug now! ROFLMAO! I think starting next week (after this sucker has finally departed) it's time to drag my hiney back to the gym and get back on a healthy eating regime. I sure hope that nurse is right and I don't have to deal with this for another 6 or 7 years. Hope you get back to 100% soon, it's not fun and you have my sympathies. Guest guest
I have heard a lot of good things about " Airborne " . I was in Costco yesterday nad they carry it. I read the label and it boosts the immune system, etc. It was developed by a teacher who got sick of getting sick. If you are not into the herbal and fasting treatments, it might be something to look into.
