Guest guest
Hi All, it has been a few years now. I was on Maternity leave and practicing very lightly. This is the first case I have had in a while that I would really appreciate some input on. Male, 56yo. Very muscular build. Has a history of degenerative disk disease between L2 and S6. He had a laminectomy and partial disectomy in 04' and a spinal fusion in 05'. He was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis soon after. He has also had numerous shoulder and knee surgery's. He tends to run warm. Though heat inproves the spondolitis. Cold helps his knees and shoulders. I am going to double check on this one just to make sure he did not check the wrong box. It was a really busy night so I did not have time to get back to this question. The Spondolitis is focused mainly on the sacral iliac area. He has had numbness in his legs, especially before the surguries due to the spinal degenaration. He does not report much upper back or neck pain. Though ROM in neck is severely limited. His knees are also a main concern as he cannot squat and must bend over from the hips to pick things up further exhaserbating his back pain. He is on pyroxicam for inflammation. He has also tried Methotrexate and Humerate as immune suppressants with little effect. Two cups of coffee and two drinks per day. Blood pressure 120/80 He has mild heartburn. Wakes 1x nightly to urinate. The main emotion he experiences is saddness and he looks it. Deeply sad. He is extremly uncomfortable sitting or lying in one position for very long, I am going to try treating him on his side next time, doing all of the hua tao jia ji points this way. His pulse is Rolling/choppy and moderate. His tongue is almost peeled in the front, while in the back it is black. I am using Treatment of Modern Western Medical Diseases as a template. This is such a mixed case of excess and xu that I would really like some input into the herbal formula especially. I use single powdered herbs, so I would like to make him an effective custom formula. I was just getting overwhelmed at all of the herbs I would need to use to get everything and thought I might pose this question to this group. Also he has MRSA. How sketchy is it to treat patients with MSRA. From what I have read it is treatable. Another question to ask him. Why has he not been able to get rid of it. I am concerned about my other patients, myself and my family. Is it worth it to treat someone with MRSA and if so exactly what precautions do I take. Of course I washed his sheets immediately, washed my hands frequently, and used alcahol to swab every point to protect him as well. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Petra Buchanan, L,Ac
