Guest guest Posted January 13, 2010 Report Share Posted January 13, 2010 a patient just called saying he's been lightheaded/dizzy today (1:30p). he had a tx late afternoon yest. during tx he noticed sensations caudal to yt on forehead. this is the area he feels lightheaded today. i suggested massaging K1 and asked him to call tomorrow AM if symptoms persist. he was not lightheaded during the tx. i included some Pc points (P5-6 area) which caused numbness in the fingers. it was his 2nd tx and he was anxious with sweaty palms/feet upon needling. i promptly released the Pc needles and nml sensation rtn to the digits. i've not seen nor heard of dizziness the day following acu caused by tx. any thoughts? appreciate your imput on this, -- Kath Bartlett, LAc, MS, BA UCLA Oriental Medicine Experienced, Dedicated, Effective Abstain from all that is evil. Guest guest Posted January 14, 2010 Report Share Posted January 14, 2010 I wouldn't look at it as acupuncture causing dizziness, but if he already had something in his system the treatment might have brought it up. So, for instance, if he had dampness/phlegm in his system and you tonified his yin it might have increased the dampness and phlegm enough to cause dizziness. Or if its a deficiency type of dizziness and you did moving points maybe the movement brought up a deficient type of dizziness. Either way, I see this kind of thing as forward movement because after you sort it out you will have learned a lot about him that you didn't know before.
